Sample Interview Questions

Before an interview you should have developed a career plan, have written a concise and effective resume and prepared some answers to typical interview questions. Behavioural Based Interview (BBI) questions are the most common type of questions you will be asked at an interview. As outlined in preparing for an interview, you should try to answer interview questions using the SITUATION, PROCESS, OUTCOME technique.

Here are some sample questions you might get asked:

Leadership:
  • How did you go about setting objectives for your team last week?
  • Describe an example of a poor performing team member and how you turned them around. What was the result?

Initiative:
  • What changes have you tried to implement in your area of responsibility? What was the outcome?
  • Can you provide an example of an improvement you made in the workplace. What was the process and what were the outcomes?

Decision making:
  • Give me 2 examples of good decisions you have made in the last 6 months? Why?
  • Describe an occasion when you included team members in your decision making. To what extent did you incorporate their input?

Relationship Building:
  • Tell me about your relationships with your clients when you were at____? Tell me about your strategy for building relationships with your clients?
  • Tell me about a client or stakeholder you had difficulty with and how you turned them around?

Performance:
  • What were your targets or KPIs and how did you perform? Explain the results and how you achieved or did not achieve them.

Customer service and ethics:
  • Did you have any clients, customers or internal stakeholders that had unreasonable demands on you? How did you handle it and what did you learn from the experience?
  • Can you provide an example of a customer (internal or external) that you let down. How did you handle it and what were the learnings?

Effectiveness  and planning:
  • Take me through the steps you went through to develop a business plan? What was the process you used and how did you measure your effectiveness of planning?
  • How have you assisted co-workers to improve their performance at work? What was the result?
