Our client is a successful privately owned food service business headquartered in Tasmania with multiple sites. Throughout Covid, the organisation remained resilient and more recently has been experiencing strong growth. Having successfully navigated Covid, the business is better than ever in terms having a clear strategic direction and also a very positive culture, with very high employee engagement scores. Due to some internal changes, the organisation is now seeking a Head of Merchandising to join their ELT team.

About the role

Reporting to the CEO and as part of the Executive Leadership Team, you will manage the supplier network and relationships to uplift the capability of the merch function including pricing, margin, quality, product range and robust trading terms. The role will also be responsible for a small team

As part of the role you will be responsible for:

  • Building category plans across a range of products including food, beverages, personal care et al
  • Oversee all supplier / trading engagements and fostering strong relationships with suppliers
  • Being part of the wider executive leadership and contributing to the strategic plan of the wider business
  • Leading and developing the team to deliver and exceed on their KPIs
  • Driving commercial and operational improvement across the merch function including rebates, promotions, trading terms, marketing

Experience & Skills

To ensure your success in this role, you must present with:

  • Senior buying experience gained from grocery across wide range of products / merchandise - food (fresh / pantry / frozen) beverages, personal care
  • Ideally experience gained from a large retailer
  • Must have experience leading a small team
  • A highly commercial and strategic leader who has proven experience in driving top and bottom line growth
  • Outstanding communication skills
