About the Company

This business is the sole manufacturer of plastic (polyethylene & polymers) in Australia. This is a large-scale major hazard business located in the western suburbs of Melbourne. This business is seeking multiple Mechanical Engineers to join their team for an upcoming largescale project. This business is currently looking for a Mechanical Fixed Equipment Engineer & a Mechanical Rotating Equipment Engineer.

About the Role

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, these Mechanical Engineers will need provide specialised technical expertise on major rotating (rotating pumps, turbines & compressors) /fixed (plant equipment, furnaces, boilers etc) machinery and general-purpose plant machinery to the Operations group so that world standard KPIs can be met operating this equipment in terms of safety, throughput, machine availability, operating and maintenance costs.

  • Overall responsibility for setting standards of machinery activities.
  • Provide technical leadership to improve machinery reliability across Altona
  • Provide technical advice as requested
  • Possess a detailed knowledge of all relevant aspects of machinery design and application to lead all aspects of machinery
  • operation & maintenance
  • This job role encompasses troubleshooting the operation and maintenance of large, complex, high-tech equipment. It includes the
  • training of operators, maintenance technicians and generalist engineers in the field of machinery performance as well as mentoring and training more junior machinery engineers and specialists.
  • Lead troubleshooting activities around machinery, especially high powered unspare main compressor trains
  • Responsible for execution of major machinery turnaround work, ensuring all required parts, personnel and procedures are available in time and are managed within budget. Responsibility for establish emergency readiness post shutdown start up and replenishing of key capital spares.
  • Final technical responsibility for machinery engineering tools, standards and specification development and review.
  • Field supervision of tradespeople and Operators during critical machinery activities.
  • Implement equipment reliability improvement projects.

Key attributes required:

  • Mechanical Engineer, who is acceptable to the Institution of Engineers Australia, for registration as a Chartered Professional Engineer
  • Experience in a major hazard large scale facility.
  • 10+ years' experience working in a similar role with fixed/rotating equipment
  • Demonstrated experience across:
    • Minimum of plant producibility debits attributable to machinery problems.
    • Major machinery reliability availability at world-class levels.
    • Track record of achieving major machinery start up after Turnarounds in a timely, safe, and reliable fashion.
    • Reviews and analysis done on recommendations
