This business is the sole manufacturer of plastic (polyethylene & polymers) in Australia. This is a large-scale major hazard business located in the western suburbs of Melbourne. This business is seeking a Mechanical Project Engineer to join their business.
About the Role
Reporting to Engineering & Business improvement Team Manager, this Mechanical Project Engineer is responsible for providing engineering support in mechanical, machinery & hardware engineering. Your role is to develop and implement safe, operable, and cost-effective projects that meet the engineering standards and business needs.
Skills & Experience
This is an exciting and integral role within the business for future growth and your experience and skill set will include the following:
- Driving a continuous improvement approach including networking with other sites designed to ensure that the best SHE practices are adopted and implemented.
- Lead/Participate in Safety reviews, HAZOPS and audits to drive continuous improvement of sites safety.
- Progresses ideas from the OFI stage through the various investigation stages of OFI investigations, scoping studies, Design Basis Memorandums
- Project manage approved projects, ensuring safety, cost and schedule are met
- Uses lean project management skills
- Provides monthly project updates to project sponsors and project owners
- Completes detailed design
- Ensures necessary training is delivered before project commissioning
- Gains a good working knowledge of machinery
- Maintains external links to equipment vendors and other technical networks
- Provide reviews in areas of structures and piping and apply sound principles in project design
Key attributes required:
- Bachelor level Mechanical Engineering qualification which is acceptable to the Washington Accord University List
- Ideally 5+ years' experience, with experience in:
- Chemical, oil & gas or petrochemical industry
- rotating equipment, compounders desirable
- plant equipment and implementing improvements on brownfield projects
- hydrocarbons, polymer, or plant engineering projects
- Designing, executing complex projects on time and on budget
- Ability to communicate with all levels of the organisation from engineers to trades employees
