UX/UI Specialist

Currently UQ have an exciting opportunity for a UI/UX Specialist to join their Marketing and Communications team. The role will report to the Customer Experience Manager and will work closely with internal stakeholders including UQ's senior managers in research, advancement, marketing along with faculties, institutes and centres, and business units.

About the project

UQ is undergoing a digital Customer Experience transformation program where the aim is to enhance the Universities reputation and market position engaging in high quality marketing and communications strategies. Partnering with Information Technology Services and Office of Marketing and Communication the CX is tasked to deliver a host of benefits to UQ through the provision of strategy, performance measures, technology platforms, policies and processes to enable an enterprise wide, coordinated personalised engagement experience for all UQ's key stakeholder groups.

The focus of the programme is to, uplift stakeholder experience, increase effectiveness of marketing and communications and to streamline operations Information for Prospective Staff Information about life at UQ.

The role

The Customer Experience and Digital Team is responsible for developing, testing, and implementing a strategy to reach and engage target audiences (stakeholder groups) through multiple digital channels like eDM, web, mobile, VR, multimedia, CRM and social. The UI/UX Specialist is responsible for supporting the development of CX strategy, and coordinating the implementation of UI/UX cross all stakeholder groups (Future Students, Current Students, Alumni, Advancement, Research, Corporate, Community and Staff) to execute of the University's CX programs and activities, working collaboratively across the whole of UQ.

Skills & Experience

  • Maximise interface functionality and usability
  • Constant review of user experience
  • Research and analyse user requirements/behaviours through focus groups and website usage data
  • Map the user journey and site pathways to ensure interface has simple navigation and the visual cues to meet user needs
  • Update the user interface design and pathways for legacy sites ensuring quality visual layout
  • Plan and design University web page including graphic elements and navigation components for an engaging user experience
  • Collaborate with the Information Architect to improve the usability and functionality of websites.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of web and content governance structures, processes, policies and documentation to maintain quality control over digital assets
  • Collaborate with the Information Architect to improve the usability and functionality of websites.
  • Build and manage relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure you are aware of and comply with legislation and University policy relevant to the duties undertaken

Key Attributes

Postgraduate qualifications or progress towards postgraduate qualifications and subsequent relevant experience in a CX and digital role designing and implementing customer experiences.

  • Extensive experience in human centred design and implementation of strategic CX and digital plans to support business goals.
  • Strong collaboration, interpersonal, influencing, verbal and visual communication skills including political acumen and a strong ability to work effectively across formal structural boundaries.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop innovative and creative wireframes and UI prototyping to meet end user needs.
  • High level analytical and conceptual skills to deliver solutions to complex user experience issues.
  • Proven coding and analytical skills to test UX designs.
  • Demonstrated experience in UX research, experience design, user journey mapping and digital interface design (presentation of a portfolio will be required).


This is a full-time, continuing appointment at HEW Level 7. The total remuneration package, including employer superannuation contributions of up to 17%, will be in the range $97,851 - $106,879 p.a. This position is based in Toowong, close to excellent public transport connections. You would be expected to attend the St Lucia campus for meetings as required, taking advantage of UQ's free frequent shuttle bus.
