NAB Launches Points-to-Donations Platform

  • Points earned through credit card purchases can now be donated to the largest pool of charities attached to a banking reward program through the National Australia Bank.
  • NAB Rewards allows customers to earn up to one point for every dollar spent, which could traditionally be used for flights and other goods and services. Participants can now donate their points to a choice of 80 charities across health, education, emergency services, environment, aid and youth services.
  • “NAB Rewards gives customers more flexibility, control and choice so they can pass their rewards on to the causes that matter most to them,” NAB’s executive general manager of customer lending Angus Gilfillan said.

Movember Foundation and NBCF Partner for the First Time

  • The Movember Foundation and the National Breast Cancer Foundation are joining forces for the first time, funding research to help transform the lives of men and women around the world diagnosed with prostate and breast cancer.
  • In Australia, prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in men and 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime, highlighting the importance of the partnership to stop our parents, partners, siblings and friends dying too young.
  • Paul Villanti, Executive Director of Programs for the Movember Foundation said the grant highlights the shared vision of both organisations to work towards reducing the number of deaths from prostate and breast cancers.

$5M Potter Foundation Donation for Vocational Education and Training

  • A $5 million donation from The Ian Potter Foundation will help fund a new state-of-the-art skills development hub at Victoria University’s Sunshine campus to tackle job shortages in Melbourne’s West.
  • The philanthropic grant will complement funding from the Victorian government and is the foundation’s first major investment in vocational education and training.
  • The significant investment would allow students to study construction technologies, advanced manufacturing and health technologies; use simulated learning environments for health and community services; and have a dedicated space for targeted language, literacy and numeracy programs.

A Social Network for People with Disability

  • Dale Reardon launched the My Disability Matters Club, a social enterprise for people with a disability, to provide a safe and easy-to-use space to connect, share ideas, seek advice and find support.
  • Users create a profile where they can enter information and updates, and connect with friends and follow people. There is also personal messaging and group chat.
  • My Disability Matters, which launched in December 2016, ticked over 1,000 members last week. The business model, which relies primarily on ad dollars, was finessed with the help of the Macquarie Kickstarter program.
