Reliability Lead – Afternoon Shift | 2 Roles | Broadmeadows
We’re currently seeking two experienced and hands-on Reliability Leads to join an established maintenance team at a large-scale manufacturing site in Broadmeadows. These roles are part of an exciting expansion project involving the introduction of a new fill/finish line and bulk fractionation operations.

You’ll be joining a well-respected and long-standing maintenance team that operates in a unionised, 24/7 manufacturing environment. Working Monday to Friday on the afternoon shift (2:30pm – 10:21pm), you’ll play a key role in leading mechanical trades, driving execution of planned maintenance, and improving plant reliability.

What you’ll be doing:
  • Lead a team of Mechanical Technicians, providing day-to-day direction and ensuring safe and efficient execution of maintenance work.
  • Be a key figure during facility shutdowns and respond to breakdowns or urgent issues outside of regular hours when required.
  • Own the reliability piece — investigate recurring failures, conduct root cause analysis, and implement long-term solutions.
  • Focus on improving equipment performance and reliability, while ensuring compliance with maintenance procedures and work orders.
  • Support and coach a team of experienced trades, building capability in areas like training compliance and behavioural performance.
  • Build effective working relationships with Production, Electrical & Instrumentation, Planning, and Quality teams.
  • Provide strong leadership in a unionised environment, managing expectations and holding the team accountable.
About you:
  • Degree-qualified in Mechanical, Chemical, or Process Engineering.
  • Around 6+ years of experience in maintenance or reliability engineering roles, ideally with leadership exposure.
  • Comfortable working in batch or regulated manufacturing (pharma, food, beverage, chemical or paper all relevant).
  • Experience in a GMP environment is a bonus but not essential — strong technical skills and a proactive attitude are more important.
  • You’ve worked with or led unionised teams before, and you’re confident managing personalities, setting clear expectations, and following through on performance.
  • Strong understanding of RCM, 5S, TPM or other reliability-based systems.
  • Familiarity with Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
What’s on offer:
  • Afternoon shift role: 2:30pm – 10:21pm, Monday to Friday.
  • Ongoing, permanent opportunity with exposure to major project work.
  • Supportive leadership and an experienced team – many of whom have been on-site 20+ years.
  • A chance to step into a challenging but rewarding leadership role, with opportunities for growth.
These roles offer a genuine opportunity to step up and make a difference in a site that’s going through real transformation. If you're technically strong, good with people, and want to grow your leadership skills in a high-performing team – we’d love to hear from you. Please click apply or email emmao@sde.com.au
