AO7 Principal Governance Officer
Location: Brisbane CBD (Albert Street precinct)
Contract: 27 April 2026 to 30 October 2026 (with potential extension)
Rate: $88.29 per hour + super (36.25 hours per week, PAYG)
This role is responsible for leading and strengthening governance, risk, and performance frameworks within a large Queensland Government environment.

This role is responsible for leading and strengthening governance, risk, and performance frameworks within a large Queensland Government environment.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of strategic planning, performance, risk, and governance frameworks, ensuring alignment with legislative requirements, ISO standards, and whole-of-government expectations
- Provide governance oversight across key functions including internal audit, legal, Right to Information (RTI), and insurance matters
- Deliver high-quality advice to executives and stakeholders on contemporary governance, risk, audit, and planning practices
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to support an integrated and best-practice operating environment
- Prepare complex reports, submissions, and briefing materials for senior leadership and governance committees
- Build and maintain strong relationships across internal business areas, central agencies, and external stakeholders
- Promote a positive, risk-aware culture through facilitation, workshops, and communities of practice
- Support and contribute to strategic projects that underpin governance and organisational accountability
- Develop and maintain tools, frameworks, and resources to strengthen governance capability across the organisation
- Demonstrated experience across governance, risk, planning, and performance functions
- Strong ability to operate in a fast-paced environment, resolving complex issues and delivering outcomes
- Highly developed analytical and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to provide clear, well-reasoned advice at a senior level
- Proven stakeholder engagement capability, with strong communication, negotiation, and influencing skills
- Ability to work autonomously, take ownership, and deliver in ambiguous or changing environments
- Experience in team capability development, resource management, and performance monitoring
- Commitment to ethical behaviour, collaboration, and continuous improvement
