Location – Brisbane CBD office
Duration - 06/07/2026 - 08/01/2027 (possible extension)
$79.17 per hour + Super (36.25 hours per week, PAYG)
Position overview:
Your role will support the department to partner with Queensland Government agencies to deliver their core services, by providing state-wide planning, building, maintenance, and disaster response services that utilise local suppliers and tradespeople and apprentices. The work you will do helps someone every day, and that means the world to us. As a Senior WH&S Advisor, Wellbeing, and Injury Management, you will provide expert advice and specialist support to managers, staff, and stakeholders on workplace health and safety, wellbeing, and injury management matters. You will develop and lead tailored strategies, monitor trends, and build organisational capability to enhance worker health, support safe and sustainable return-to-work outcomes, and minimise workplace injuries, claims costs, and durations.
Additionally, you will manage complex workers' compensation cases, facilitate return-to-work processes, address safety and psychosocial risks, and strengthen the organisation's safety culture. You will work independently with sound judgement and initiative, collaborating with external stakeholders such as WorkCover Queensland and Departmental Corporate Services to ensure consistent and high-quality service delivery to internal clients.
This position is based in Brisbane CBD, with travel required to regional offices across Queensland.

What you will be doing:
- Develop, implement, and evaluate WHS, wellbeing and workers' compensation strategies, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with legislation and best practice standards.
- Provide expert advice, support, and training to all levels of staff on workers compensation, workplace rehabilitation, and return-to-work strategies.
- Manage and coordinate complex injury cases and support WHS regional staff and managers in handling work and non-work-related injuries and illness.
- Liaise with WorkCover, insurers and other professionals to ensure effective case management and claim resolution.
- Collaborate with Corporate Services such as Legal Services and Governance to prepare and provide accurate information for common law claims.
- Assist line managers to prepare professional and timely employer responses for WorkCover and other insurers.
- Foster partnerships with managers and staff to encourage early intervention, recovery at work, and risk reduction.
- Monitor and evaluate workers' compensation cases to ensure consistency and positive outcomes.
- Collect, analyse, and report on WHS, wellbeing, and workers' compensation data to identify emerging trends and recommend proactive measures.
- Prepare high-quality reports, submissions, briefs, and correspondence to support senior decision-making.
- Contribute to internal and external networks to share knowledge, standardise practices, and enhance service delivery.
- Ensure secure handling of sensitive information in line with relevant legislation and organisational policies.
- Actively contribute to a positive safety culture that builds leadership capabilities and supports staff to maximise their expertise, health and wellbeing.
- Extensive experience managing high-volume workers' compensation cases, with a focus on proactive claim management, legislative compliance, and reducing claims costs and durations, would be highly regarded.
- Tertiary qualifications in an appropriate discipline or Rehabilitation and Return to Work Coordinator Certificate is desirable but not mandatory.
- Ability to operate a class C motor vehicle, and a valid licence to operate this type of vehicle.
