Six Degrees Executive are proud to be partnering with Reach Robotics in a search for a General Manager. Reach Robotics develops advanced underwater intervention systems for portable ROVs.  Their best-in-class robotic manipulators enable remote inspection and intervention applications for military, commercial and research sectors.  They aim to extend human reach into harsh sub-sea environments. Established in 2016, the Company has become a leading player in undersea robotics, developing innovative and cutting-edge technology that continues to attract great interest from the sector, globally. After moving from start-up phase to a foundation for success and then joining the General Oceans Group (UK headquartered holding company with 5 global operating companies & 9 subsidiaries in underwater technologies), now is the time for the business to mature its presence in the market and set clear long-term goals for sustainability and profitability.

In order to achieve its potential, Reach now requires a Leader to take the business forward with a strong strategic and operational focus.  This is a multi-faceted hands-on role with the need to be agile, quickly pivoting between Operations, Sales, Engineering, Manufacturing and Finance; a truly commercial all-rounder.

The Expectations:
  • Agree the strategic direction with General Oceans and implement with appropriate organisational structure, direction and effective resource management.
  • Keep focus on the commercial priorities, removing distractions and driving the completion of activities to achieve P&L / Revenue targets and continuous growth.
  • Be accountable for delivering value in everything the company undertakes, overseeing effective cost-management, streamlining processes and ensuring necessary change is efficient, seamless and an accepted part of the business landscape.
  • Being present, active, engaged and visible to employees, customers, institutions and the group companies.  Be the ultimate advocate for the business; sales, people, technology, industry.
  • Maintain a depth of understanding in the industry, marketplace, competition and future direction of products/technology to inform, support and justify decision making.
  • Inspire and motivate others to perform to their highest level, ensuring strong succession is in place, setting high standards for progression and leading by example in having a transparent, honest and direct approach to managing expectations.
  • Periodic reporting to and regular collaboration with General Oceans and its group companies. 
Ideal Background:
  • Demonstrable experience in operationally managing a business or business unit through maturity stages, within a design to manufacture lifecycle environment, with full P&L responsibility.
  • Good understanding of taking products to market; identify the commercial opportunity, direct product development plan, progress to production and bring to market (ideally complex electrical / mechanical products).
  • Experience in precision engineering or advanced manufacturing for regulated markets like defence, marine, commercial sectors eg offshore oil & gas, renewables highly valued.
  • The commercial intellect to make decisions quickly and confidently based on the gathering, analysis and assessment of key information.
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to execute the appropriate structures and processes for size and scale of business that deliver outcomes in a streamlined and agile way.
  • A track record of nurturing customer and industry relationships, with direct relationship management and broader networking / trade show experience (global travel will be required).
  • Ideally some exposure to subsea technologies and the markets it serves.
