Six Degrees Executive has been retained on a critical maintenance leadership appointment for a leading privately owned FMCG manufacturer in Melbourne's western suburbs. This business has a long and storied history of success, built on a backbone of entrepreneurial excellence and has become a market category leader across frozen and ambient product, supplying into leading retail and food service markets. The business has an embedded approach to quality, and is at an exciting junction, with future plans of a purpose built site on the agenda.
About the role
The Head of Maintenance/Maintenance Manager is a critical leadership hire for the business, working closely with key functional leaders in the business to ensure effective asset care and production capability across their sizeable production setting. This role inherits a team of circa 6-8 heads on-site, with an additional portfolio of specialist contractors across temperature controlled solutions, boilers and specialist services to supplement their in-house capability. With a mix of purpose-build assets and brand new state of the art kit, the site is well placed for current needs, but looking to the future for what the next phase of growth looks like by way of investment, capital and commissioning. What we are looking for
Whilst a strategic role, this appointment will be best suited to an individual with a mechanical or electrical trades background as there will be an element of hands-on nature to the role so that you can "lead from the front". Engineering backgrounds will be considered equally, as there is also a large remit across planning, scheduling and building out a more robust framework in which maintenance can be done in a more efficient and effective manner.

- Leadership of the maintenance function - full budgetary and management accountability across labour, stores and spares
- Driving the asset management agenda - setting the standard for preventative maintenance as well as short, medium and long term asset care
- Support across commissioning and validation - the business has seen strong investment in both R&M and the implementation of new kit
What we are looking for

- Maintenance leadership experience within a manufacturing setting (essential) - food, consumer goods, industrial manufacturing environments
- Demonstrated capability to lead a site through change management - you will be inheriting a mix of long tenured and new team, working towards best practice is a focus for the new incumbent
- Strong commercial acumen - not just a good head for numbers, you'll be able to assess current needs against future critical investment and adjust accordingly - what is the solution for the now vs. what is the solution as they invest in new kit for the future.
