About the company

An exciting opportunity to join a leading packaging manufacturing business located in Melbourne’s northern suburbs. With a highly engaged and diverse workforce, this organisation has a strong national presence and key focus on maintaining quality & safety standards.

About the role

The HSEQ Lead plays a critical role in leading and implementing Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality (HSEQ) strategies at the site level. Reporting to the Plant Manager and working closely with the HSEQ National Lead, this role ensures ongoing compliance with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards and alignment with the company’s vision of zero harm.

This position is responsible for managing the site’s HSEQ systems, including hazard identification, risk assessments, emergency preparedness, and safety committee facilitation. The HSEQ Lead oversees incident and injury reporting and investigations, manages return-to-work coordination, and engages with injured employees and practitioners to support workplace rehabilitation.
Environmental compliance, maintaining site certifications, and advising on legislative changes are also key aspects of the role.

Additionally, the HSEQ Lead develops and implements training programs, manages internal audits, and ensures continuous improvement through root cause analysis and corrective action planning.

From a Quality perspective you will:
  • Keep the site certified and in line with ISO 9001 standards
  • Leading their audit programme — scheduling audits, picking the right auditors, and reporting findings
  • Writing and rolling out clear procedures across quality, — all while making sure we meet regulations, policies, and legal requirements
  • Manage non‑conformances end‑to‑end: drilling into root causes, setting up corrective and preventative actions.

Skills & experience

We are looking for an adaptable leader who can operate effectively in a single-site environment with occasional visits to other sites across Australia when required. The successful candidate will bring a blend of quality, safety and environmental expertise at a site level. Your skills and experience will include:
  • Relevant qualifications in Health & Safety ie; Cert IV in Health & Safety or equivalent
  • Relevant industry experience across packaging or related industrial / FMCG industries
  • Proven experience maintaining and auditing ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 systems
  • Proven ability to design and deliver HSEQ training (e.g. inductions, toolbox talks)
  • Competency in managing internal audits and corrective/preventative actions
  • Strong stakeholder communication, including facilitation of safety committees
