The Self-Determination Fund is established as a public charitable trust between First People’s Assembly of Victoria (as the Aboriginal Representative Body under the Advancing the Treaty Process with Aboriginal Victorians Act 2018 (Vic)) and the State of Victoria. The Self-Determination Fund is the first of its kind with an initial $65m from the Victorian Government. Having registered its DGR status, future funding may also be raised from members of the public, other non-government and potentially government sources.

About the role:
Reporting to the CEO, the role of Finance Director & Company Secretary is responsible leading the finance functions, business services, secretariate and governance management for the Self-Determination Fund. As part of the establishment team, the role will also have responsibility for establishing, identifying and implementing systems, policies and processes for the Finance function and financial compliance of the fund. - Supporting First Peoples in Victoria in having equal footing with the State in Treaty negotiations.
- Provide long term financial support independent from the State to support Victoria’s First Peoples to build capacity, wealth and prosperity in perpetuity.
About the role:
Reporting to the CEO, the role of Finance Director & Company Secretary is responsible leading the finance functions, business services, secretariate and governance management for the Self-Determination Fund. As part of the establishment team, the role will also have responsibility for establishing, identifying and implementing systems, policies and processes for the Finance function and financial compliance of the fund. Key responsibilities include:
- Develop, implement, and monitor appropriate financial systems, procedures and internal controls to support the efficient and effective operations for the Finance function.
- Prepare month end and quarterly reports for management and Board, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets and cash flow statements.
- Support the development of the annual budget and ongoing forecasting process for the Fund.
- Provide secretarial support to the Board and all CEO and Board related committees, including co-ordination of meetings, agendas, collating and distributing board and committee papers, drafting, and circulating minutes of meetings and following up of action points.
- Manage internal control frameworks, governance, and risk management policies.
- Ensure compliance of the Fund’s governing documents, ATO and charitable regulations.
- Management of audit engagement including provision of information to meet audit requirements and resolution of outstanding matters.
- Management of the accounts payable and payroll functions.
- Provide strategic advice in areas to improve business efficiencies and manage budget effectively.
- Owner of the General Ledger and upholds data integrity including monthly preparation and review of Balance Sheet reconciliations.
About you:
- CA/CPA qualified with experience in a not-for-profit environment and a strong knowledge of government funding models, compliance, risk management, audit and internal controls.
- Prior experience in company secretarial processes is critical.
- AICD or relevant governance/directorship training will be highly regarded.
- Detailed knowledge of accounting principles and standards are essential for this role.
- Comprehensive understanding of ATO, FBT, superannuation and other regulatory compliance requirements.
- Self-motivated, positive, and resilient leader with excellent multi-tasking skills.
- Agile with the ability to adapt and respond to change and fluidity of a growing organisation.
- Proactive attitude with the ability to work under pressure.
- Respectfully fosters culturally sensitive relationships and values Indigenous perspectives.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
- Liaising with key stakeholders across the Fund is critical to your success in this position.
