WHS Manager - Delivery
The Organisation
Our client was established to transform Australia’s supply chains and is an independent developer of critical logistics infrastructure. Their role is to plan, deliver and have oversight of intermodal terminals that will connect through from Melbourne to Brisbane, and is part of the inland rail project.
The Opportunity
It is a critical role and to meet WHS objectives, the successful candidate will need to help develop a mature safety culture, by establishing programs, processes and work practices that support the safe delivery of intermodal infrastructure projects. The WHS Manager will provide WHS leadership, governance, and support to the delivery team, develop and maintain key stakeholder relationships, and work collaboratively with contractors to embed an effective, sustainable WHS culture on our delivery projects. The key functions will be:
• Aligning WHS practices across all departments, projects, and precincts to ensure the company is capable of leading development and delivery of major infrastructure.
• Balancing the responsive nature of the role with a longer term, proactive planning approach that drives continuous improvement in safety management and positive cultural transformation.
Essential Skills
• Ensure delivery team’s compliance with relevant WHS legislation, regulations, industry standards, policies and procedures
• Actively support embedding a preventative risk culture to reduce the likelihood of serious injury
• Provide input in the review and management of the WHS Management System and frameworks to ensure an intuitive experience that supports employee access and capability development and reduces the risk of WHS incidents
• Development and implementation of project specific WHS management plans, procedures, guidelines, and training. Participate in safety in design and risk management workshops
• Monitor WHS lead and lag indicators and where necessary develop further monitoring tools to track WHS successes and trends. Work with contractors to proactively implement initiatives to generate continuous WHS performance improvement
• Lead and participate as required in internal & external audits, close out audit findings where relevant, and undertake post audit continuous improvement initiatives
• Prepare WHS reports as required and ensure accurate monthly reporting data on WHS performance by employees and contractors
• Participate in and support incident investigations and guide effective corrective actions are developed and implemented
To Be Successful
Ideally you will have at least 8 years’ experience in safety, health, environment, or a training position, with experience in either a high-risk business or infrastructure projects. Any experience with rail or logistics would be highly regarded. You need to demonstrate adaptability and be able to operate in a fluid environment and have the agility to flex when necessary. The ability to build a WHS program from scratch is essential, as well as experience in leading risk management workshops, processes and trend analysis, and a strong working knowledge and practical application of HSE legislation, standards, and codes of practice.
