About the company 

Our client, a leading member-based organisation, serves as a major buying group within the B2B industry. An exceptional opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and driven General Manager to lead and further develop the organisation.

About the role

Reporting to the Board, you will be responsible for overseeing the organisation’s strategic planning initiatives. This includes setting long-term goals, developing actionable plans, and ensuring alignment with the organisation’s mission and vision. Additionally, you will manage and strengthen relationships with both suppliers and members. Your role will be pivotal in driving the organisation’s strategic direction and operational excellence, ensuring it remains a leader in the industry. Key responsibilities include:
  • Develop and implement strategies to grow the business.
  • Engage at a senior level with major suppliers to develop, implement and review their strategic partnerships with the organisation.
  • Improve the buying power of members.
  • Identify marketing activities, events, and initiatives to assist members to grow their business.
  • Management of the administration, category management and finance functions.
  • Manage and deliver on critical IT projects and other “value-added” services to benefit members.
  • Manage the organisation’s compliance in all administrative areas including corporate governance, maintenance of licences and products approvals, protection of Trademarks, employment, work health and safety and legal areas.
  • Negotiation of contracts with suppliers.
  • Assist the Board with the preparation of agendas, minutes of meetings, and follow up on agreed action points.

About you
  • Degree qualified, you will have extensive experience in a leadership position within a major buying group, franchise organisation, hardware, construction or building sectors.
  • A strong understanding of category management is essential for this role.
  • Collaborative, positive and able to integrate into a tight, capable and experience team.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Agile with the ability to adapt and respond to change.
  • A proactive mindset with the capability to perform effectively under pressure and a hands-on approach.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Successfully liaising with key stakeholders, both internally and externally, is essential for your success in this role.
