HSE Manager (Manufacturing)

The Organisation
Leading global manufacturer of mechanical, electronic and pneumatic components. The primary customer base is the rail, trucking and mining industries. The Head Office is based in Western Sydney. The site is a manufacturing and service operation with 200+ employees onsite. This is an assembly, workshop, industrial manufacturing type of environment. The volumes are very much project based. There is also a large service component where customers will send back components for repair, service and overhaul. Across Australia the company has 500+ employees.

The Opportunity
As a Health, Safety and Environment Manager you will drive all aspects of the HSE function, providing development, direction and accountability to the business. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Health and Safety professional who is comfortable leading the function in an industrial manufacturing environment. This role reports directly to the Group Quality Manager. You would be responsible for:
  • Coordinating and implementing HSE policies, procedures and practices.
  • Coordinate and lead monthly HSE Committee Meetings.
  • Prepare and conduct HSE inductions for new staff.
  • Conduct HSE site audits (there are multiple sites located across Australia - you would need to visit each site once a year).
  • Oversee the environmental compliance, improvement and reporting.
  • Build strong internal relationships with all levels of stakeholders.
Skills and Experience
  • Relevant qualification in a HSE discipline (e.g. Cert IV WHS, Diploma or a technical qualification).
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in a similar safety and compliance role, preferably within a manufacturing or technical service environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of HSE legislation, regulations, emerging issues and best practices.
  • Excellent communication skills - both written and verbal.
  • Strong influencing skills.
  • Must have full Australian working rights and be based in metropolitan Sydney.
This role will require you to be engaged in a pragmatic way, talking to people at all levels from the shop floor all the way up to senior management.
