Six Degrees Executive is partnering with a privately owned, multi-site group to appoint a Financial Controller who genuinely enjoys building structure, simplifying complexity, and uplifting how finance supports decision-making across the business. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who loves taking ownership of month-end, strengthening governance and controls, and improving reporting rhythms and systems so leaders have clear, timely visibility.

Our client is a well-established Queensland-based group operating across trade-focused and operationally complex divisions, with multiple sites and revenue streams. The business is entering a period where strong financial discipline, scalable processes, and sharper commercial insight are key to continued growth. The culture being a family-owned business is very entrepreneurial, meaning things move quickly, people pitch in, and practical outcomes matter.

You will lead the financial control function and play a pivotal role in creating structure across reporting, processes, and systems. You will partner closely with operational leaders and drive improvements that reduce noise and create clarity.

Financial control and reporting
  • Own month-end close, management reporting packs and variance analysis across multiple sites/divisions
  • Ensure balance sheet integrity, reconciliations, cashflow visibility and controls
  • Support statutory compliance, audit coordination, and tax/BAS requirements 
Structure, process and systems
  • Build and refine finance processes, policies, controls and delegated authorities
  • Improve reporting cadence, data quality, and performance visibility
  • Support or lead system improvement initiatives (ERP/accounting), automation and workflow redesign
Commercial partnering
  • Partner with operational leaders on margin, cost control, pricing support and working capital
  • Strengthen forecasting, budgeting and performance tracking
  • Improve inventory and stock controls
Leadership
  • Lead and develop the finance team and uplift capability
  • Create a strong “no surprises” culture across reporting and performance
About you
  • Demonstrated experience as a Financial Controller (or Senior Finance Manager ready to step up) in a complex operational environment (multi-site, multi-entity, trade/industrial, product and services mix, project-based, or similar)
  • Strong grounding in financial controls, reporting, and process improvement
  • Naturally enjoys creating order, building structure, and driving continuous improvement
  • Practical, commercially minded, and comfortable operating in a fast-moving, family-owned environment
  • CA/CPA preferred
