| Location: | melbourne |
| Job Type: | temporary |
| Salary: | Competitive |
| Contact: | Scott Logan |
About the company
This is a well-known and estsablished producer of tools and hardware for both the consumer and B2B markets who has a wide and competitive range of products trusted by tradies and home DIYers alike. You'll find an option in their brand competing across most of the range in the major retailers such as Bunnings. Over the last few years they've had a strategy focused around innovation and excellence - this year will see the implementation of a new specifications systems, novel partnerships with AI solutions providers, and continued focus on innovation and quality.
About the role
This role is focused on design and development (R&D, Innovation) of hardware products both new and improved, diagnosing and updating products based on faults and failures, coordinating testing, prototyping, and also contributing to the implementation of their new specifications system. You'll work with suppliers, and as part of an established product team that consists of engineers, technologists, and works adjacent to sales, commercial, procurement and other functions. This is a corporate and centralised role in an office environment in the South Eastern suburbs, there is some reasonable flexibility (approx. 3-2 depending on what you have going on in any given week). This is also a contract role (at least initially), with the intention for it to go permanent after a 12 month period.
About you
We're looking for someone in their early to mid career, you'll probably have a mechanical engineering or materials science degree, you'll have some experience in a product design or R&D focused role, and ideally that experience will be transferable to hardware products in some way.
Why apply?
This is a great environment in which to be going into an R&D focused role - the business has quite a strong focus on driving excellence today but it is coming from a reasonably low base where they've not had robust systems and ways of working, which means there is a huge amount of opportunity to innovate, to drive cost savings, to improve quality etc. It is the kind of environment where small improvements can have huge impacts on the bottom line at scale. Moreover, it is a business that has a great culture - very friendly - that enjoys a high rate of staff retention, all of which is very much true in this team. Not least of all, you will most likely earn more money in this role as compared to the average permanent role you'd be applyoing for, in acknowledgement that it is contract.
