| Location: | melbourne |
| Salary: | Remuneration dependant on experience |
| Job Type: | permanent |
| Contact: | Etienne Pommey |
The Organisation
This is a well-established independent business with operations across Melbourne. The business has built a strong reputation over the past decade through long-term relationships, customer service, and a highly practical approach to how they operate. With continued growth across the business, they are now looking to strengthen their commercial purchasing capability by bringing in an experienced Purchasing Manager to take greater ownership across supplier management, inventory strategy, pricing, and procurement operations. The environment is hands-on, fast-moving, and relationship driven. The leadership team is looking for someone who can operate autonomously, improve structure and process where required, and help take the business to the next level commercially.
The Opportunity
This is a broad Purchasing Manager role with responsibility across supplier negotiations, rebates, inventory management, pricing structures, and procurement strategy across the business. The role has been created out of a need for stronger commercial procurement capability. The business is looking for someone who can take a more proactive and strategic approach across supplier management, stock planning, and commercial outcomes. You’ll work closely with leadership, finance, store operations, and inventory stakeholders, helping improve visibility across purchasing activity while identifying opportunities to strengthen processes and deliver better commercial outcomes. The position will also play a key role in longer-term operational planning as the business continues to grow.
Key areas of focus include:
• Managing supplier relationships, pricing negotiations, rebates, and LTI agreements
• Reviewing inventory management, stock control, and core product range strategy
• Supporting pricing management and procurement analysis through the ERP system
• Improving procurement structure, reporting, and commercial visibility across the business
• Working closely with operational stakeholders to drive better purchasing and inventory outcomes
• Contributing to broader commercial planning and business improvement initiatives
Skills & Experience Required
You’ll bring prior experience across purchasing or procurement within an inventory-led environment. The business is looking for someone commercially minded and hands-on, who can operate independently and identify opportunities without needing significant direction. Strong supplier negotiation capability and confidence working with pricing, rebates, and inventory data will be important. Strong Excel capability is essential, particularly around reporting and data analysis. Just as importantly, they’re looking for someone low ego, practical, and collaborative, who can build trust internally and clearly communicate the value procurement can bring to the business.
