Procurement & Supply Chain Manager

Location: brisbane
Salary: $150000 - $170000 per annum
Job Type: permanent
Contact: Anthony Branch
About Our Client

Our client is a well-established, privately owned Australian manufacturer in the building products sector. Vertically integrated—manufacturing, roll forming, and bending steel components in-house—the business is backed by private equity and is in an active growth phase, targeting 20% revenue growth this financial year following a significant operational turnaround.

This is a newly created role, reporting directly to the Chief Operations Officer, designed to lift procurement from a transactional function into a genuine strategic capability.

The Opportunity

Steel coil is this business's single largest cost line. You will take direct, hands-on ownership of this category—leading RFQ processes and negotiating long-term supply agreements with a clear cost reduction target.

Beyond steel coil, you'll build the procurement function from the ground up: owning inventory management, developing demand planning and forecasting methodology, and leading two direct reports (Purchasing Officers) as they grow from transactional PO processing into more strategic category work.

Expect a genuine 50/50 split between strategic project work and hands-on operational involvement — this is not a desk-bound category management role.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own and manage steel coil and general components procurement, including two direct reports
  • Lead RFQs and negotiate long-term supply agreements to drive down steel-coil cost
  • Take ownership of inventory management — MRP settings, min/max levels, trend analysis
  • Develop demand planning and forecasting aligned to sales and production
  • Build cost models in partnership with Finance
  • Contribute directly to an ERP enhancement project (parts file clean-up, work order implementation)
  • Manage commercial contracts, engaging external legal counsel for complex reviews
  • Develop and report KPIs (DIFOT, inventory turnover) and drive continuous improvement
About You
  • Minimum 5 years' progressive experience in procurement or supply chain management
  • Hands-on procurement experience within a manufacturing environment—genuine understanding of production, raw material sourcing and industrial supplier management
  • Steel or coil procurement experience highly regarded—it will accelerate impact on the savings target
  • Experience helping a business move from founder-led/less structured operations toward systematized processes
  • End-to-end supply chain exposure: demand planning, inventory management, operations
  • Proven ability to lead and develop a small team
  • ERP proficiency (Pronto experience an advantage); comfortable working within manual/Excel-based interim processes while driving toward a better future state
  • Strong negotiation and analytical capability, with commercial contract literacy
  • Degree in Supply Chain, Business or related field desirable; CPSM, CPIM, or Lean Six Sigma advantageous
Why Apply
  • A genuine mandate to build a strategic procurement & supply chain function from the ground up, not inherit someone else's system
  • Direct line to the COO and visibility to the CEO
  • A business in active growth, with a clear path to expanding scope as new product lines are added
  • Competitive salary package + superannuation
