About our Client
Our Client is a successful privately held organisation that operates several vineyards in the vibrant Sunraysia region of Australia. The business plays a significant role in regional and national production volumes, supplying bulk product into major export markets while also producing its own premium brands for local consumption.
About the Opportunity
The Irrigation Manager will report directly to the Vineyard Operations Manager and be responsible for developing and delivering the vineyard's irrigation and fertigation plan, ensuring it aligns with broader vine performance objectives.
The role will lead a small site-based team of three full time equivalent staff throughout the year, increasing by up to six seasonal staff during vintage, and promoting safe work practices, developing team capability and maintaining high operational standards. The team are also responsible for maintaining accurate irrigation and fertigation records, assisting in training seasonal operators and ensuring the ongoing reliability of equipmenmt.
Maintenance of pumps, filters, irrigation lines, valves and associated infrastructure is a critical component of the role, ensuring the system continues to operate efficiently and reliably. Soil moisture probes, soil inspections and visual crop assessments are all utilised to monitor vine performance and make informed irrigation decisions throughout the season.
The Successful Candidate
You will be an experienced irrigation professional with a practical understanding of vineyard systems, fertigation and water management, gained through hands-on operational experience.
You will bring an in depth understanding of scheduling, pressure management, filtration systems and vineyard operations. A focus on preventative maintenance will be highly regarded and your understanding of fertigation programs and the interaction between irrigation, nutrition and vine performance will be second to none.
Preference will be given to candidates willing to reside in the on-site accommodation, allowing for a rapid response to after-hours irrigation issues, such as mainline failures or other critical system faults.
