Location: darwin
Salary: Executive remuneration package, commensurate with the NTG ECO3 classification
Job Type: permanent
Contact: Ryan Webster
The Northern Territory Government is strengthening how communications, media and engagement services are coordinated across the public sector. Through the establishment of a Strategic Communications Hub situated within the Department of the Chief Minister and Cabinet (CM&C), the Territory's central agency, participating agencies will be supported to deliver more consistent, contemporary, accessible and community-focused communication services. The Hub will bring together communications capability across government into a coordinated enterprise system that supports effective public administration, agency service delivery and clear communication with Territorians on government services, programs and reform. This presents a unique opportunity for an accomplished executive to lead the Strategic Communications Hub as Senior Executive Director, Strategic Communications.

Reporting to the Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Department of the Chief Minister and Cabinet, the Senior Executive Director, Strategic Communications will lead the implementation, strategic direction and ongoing delivery of a whole-of-government strategic communications, media and engagement system. The role will drive implementation of the Strategic Communications Framework, establish governance, standards and performance frameworks, and lead the development of an integrated communications function that supports agencies to deliver consistent, high-quality communication services. The position will also play a key role in strengthening communications capability, performance and innovation across government and fostering a unified, high-performing culture within the Strategic Communications Hub and across participating agencies.

To be successful in this role, you will be an accomplished senior executive with exceptional stakeholder leadership skills, sound judgement, strong public sector awareness and the ability to operate effectively in a complex environment. You will have demonstrated experience leading complex organisational reform and delivering sustained transformation in a dynamic operating environment, including large-scale operations, enterprise-wide service delivery, organisational change or strategic reform initiatives within communications, media, marketing, engagement, external relations, corporate services or a comparable environment in either the public or private sector.

An influential and relationship-focused leader, you will be equally comfortable engaging with Chief Executives, senior executives, agency leaders and other key stakeholders. You will possess the ability to build trust, navigate complexity and deliver outcomes within a highly visible, complex and politically sensitive environment. Above all, you will bring the leadership, resilience and emotional intelligence required to establish a contemporary communications function while maintaining the confidence of a diverse stakeholder group. While experience leading a communications, media, marketing, engagement or external relations function would be highly regarded, the Department is open to candidates from a range of professional backgrounds who can demonstrate success leading complex reform, enterprise functions or large-scale organisational change.

This is a rare opportunity to lead a contemporary and connected strategic communication portfolio that supports the delivery of high quality and accessible public information, and effective service delivery across the Northern Territory Government.
