| Location: | melbourne |
| Salary: | Salary dependant on experience + Bonus |
| Job Type: | permanent |
| Contact: | Etienne Pommey |
The Organisation
You will be joining a large, well-established Australian organisation with a significant national footprint, operating within a complex and highly stakeholder-driven environment. The organisation is currently undertaking a broader procurement transformation, with significant investment being made into capability, processes and systems. With a growing pipeline of strategic work, this is an opportunity to join a procurement function that is continuing to evolve and play a greater strategic role across the organisation. The Opportunity will take ownership of a significant category with approximately $60m in annual spend across a broad supplier base. The role will have a strong focus on strategic sourcing and category management, whilst also requiring someone who is comfortable navigating the operational requirements and supplier issues that come with managing a complex category. With a number of significant sourcing initiatives already planned, the immediate focus will include a major Spirits RFP currently underway, followed by further sourcing activity across Beer & Cider and Coffee.
Key responsibilities will include:
Skills and Experience Required
You will be an experienced procurement, category management or strategic sourcing professional with ideally 10+ years' experience operating within Beverage, Foodservice or another complex and mature procurement environment. Direct experience across Beer, Wine, Spirits or broader Beverage categories would be highly advantageous, particularly where you've been responsible for sourcing, supplier negotiations, category strategy and commercial outcomes from the buying side. Foodservice procurement experience will also be highly relevant, particularly where you've managed significant supplier portfolios and operated across both strategic sourcing and operational requirements. Importantly, you'll bring strong strategic sourcing capability and have demonstrated experience leading complex RFPs and tenders through to commercial negotiation and implementation. A strong track record of delivering savings, managing supplier performance and building effective supplier relationships will be essential. You'll also be someone who is comfortable operating with a high degree of autonomy and doesn't require an overly structured environment to be effective. The organisation is continuing through a period of transformation, so you'll need to be pragmatic, resilient and comfortable dealing with ambiguity while helping to build greater structure and maturity around you. Strong stakeholder management and communication skills will be important, as will the ability to balance strategic category priorities with operational issues and provide direction to Purchasing teams when required. Experience purely within a highly structured retail category environment is less likely to translate directly into this position. Candidates from retail backgrounds would need to demonstrate genuine procurement experience across strategic sourcing, supplier negotiation and category management.
