Marketing Manager

Location: melbourne
Salary: Competitive
Job Type: permanent
Contact: Niall O'Donnell

This is an established Australian freight management business with more than 30 years of operating history and a strong reputation for customer service and long-term client relationships.
The business has built a successful national operation through strong service, operational expertise and trusted customer relationships. It is now entering an exciting period of growth and is looking to take a more structured approach to marketing as it continues to expand its customer base and market presence.
The business works with a diverse range of complex B2B customers across industries including industrial, agricultural, manufacturing and other operationally focused sectors. Many customer relationships have been established for many years, reflecting the quality of service and value the business provides.
The company wants to better communicate the people, relationships, technology, data, customer service and expertise that sit behind its offering.
Marketing is currently at an early stage, with activity historically managed across the leadership team and external providers. This newly created role will bring marketing capability in-house and provide the opportunity to take ownership of the function and build a structured approach to marketing that supports the company's next stage of growth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement the marketing strategy and annual marketing plan in line with the company's growth objectives.
  • Strengthen the company's market position and clearly communicate the value it provides to larger and more complex B2B customers.
  • Develop targeted marketing programs for priority industries and high-value accounts, including identifying key decision-makers, understanding their needs and developing relevant communications.
  • Work closely with Sales to support new business opportunities through tailored proposals, presentations, case studies, customer stories and other sales materials.
  • Take ownership of content and communications across LinkedIn, email, the website and other relevant channels, ensuring content is useful, clear and relevant to customers.
  • Manage and improve HubSpot, including customer and prospect segmentation, email campaigns, automated communications and coordination with Sales.
  • Plan and manage events, trade shows, sponsorships and customer activities, ensuring they are targeted towards the right customers and followed up effectively.
  • Lead the planned website refresh and ensure the website clearly communicates the company's services, customer value and market position.
  • Develop a more structured approach to customer advocacy by identifying opportunities to use testimonials, reviews, customer stories and case studies.
  • Establish clear marketing reporting to measure activity and its contribution to customer engagement, new business opportunities and wider business performance.
  • Work closely with Sales, Commercial, Operations and senior leadership to understand customer needs, market developments and opportunities for marketing to support the wider business.

Must Haves

  • B2B marketing experience, ideally within a services, industrial, technology, logistics or other complex commercial environment.
  • A strong understanding of how marketing supports longer sales processes involving multiple decision-makers and significant customer spend.
  • Proven experience partnering closely with Sales and developing practical materials that help win and retain customers.
  • Experience developing targeted marketing programs for specific industries, customer groups or high-value accounts.
  • Strong capability in developing clear customer propositions and positioning a business in a competitive market.
  • Excellent writing and content skills across LinkedIn, email, websites, customer stories and other business communications.
  • Hands-on experience using a CRM or marketing platform, ideally HubSpot, including segmentation, email campaigns and automated communications.
  • Confidence managing events, trade shows and customer activities from planning through to follow-up.
  • A commercial and data-led approach, with the ability to measure marketing activity against meaningful business outcomes.
  • The ability to work independently within a lean environment, balancing strategic planning with hands-on execution.
  • A practical and adaptable approach, with the confidence to work closely with senior stakeholders across different areas of the business.

Why This Role?

This is an opportunity to take genuine ownership of marketing within an established and successful Australian business. You will have the opportunity to build the marketing function from the ground up, shape how the business is positioned in the market and have a direct influence on its next stage of growth.
The business has a strong customer base, long-standing relationships and an established reputation, giving marketing a strong foundation to build from. You will work closely with Sales and senior leadership and have the freedom to bring new ideas to a traditional industry, while still maintaining a clear focus on generating meaningful results.
Most importantly, this is a broad Marketing Manager role where you will be responsible for both the strategy and the execution, with the opportunity to see the impact of your work directly across the business.
