Strategic Buyer

Location: melbourne
Salary: Salary dependant on experience
Job Type: permanent
Contact: Etienne Pommey
The Organisation
You will be working for a well-established manufacturing organisation that has recently undergone a period of significant change, with market activity now picking up and the business looking to take the next step in how it operates. This is an opportunity to join a technically focused manufacturing environment and play a key role in improving the purchasing function, introducing greater structure, forward planning and commercial discipline across the operation.

The Opportunity
The Strategic Buyer will be responsible for the proactive management of procurement, inventory and supplier activities across the manufacturing operation. This role will ensure materials and components are available in line with production requirements, while improving supplier performance, inventory management and cost control. With the current environment being highly manual and reactive, this position will play an important role in moving the business towards a more structured and forward-looking approach, including supporting the implementation of SAP and broader process improvements. Alongside the core purchasing responsibilities, the role will take ownership of improvement initiatives, while working closely with Production, Stores and Engineering to ensure supply issues are identified and resolved before they impact production.

Skills and Experience Required
You will be someone who has operated within a purchasing or procurement role in a complex industrial manufacturing environment, with strong experience across supplier management, inventory management, cost control and expediting. Heavy manufacturing experience would be highly desirable, with a strong understanding of manufacturing processes and the ability to plan forward rather than operating purely reactively. Importantly, you will have strong technical understanding, including the ability to interpret technical drawings and understand the materials, components and assemblies being purchased. You will be comfortable proactively managing supplier orders, identifying potential delays or discrepancies and working with suppliers and internal stakeholders to ensure materials are available in line with production requirements. Experience working within a manual environment and supporting the implementation or improvement of ERP/MRP systems would be beneficial.
