Location: brisbane
Salary: $180000 - $200000 per annum
Job Type: permanent

ABOUT THE BUSINESS

Young Guns was founded in 2004 by brothers Scott and Trent Young, who were working casual shifts unpacking shipping containers while chasing careers in professional rugby league. More than 20 years on, the Indigenous-owned business has grown from a small container crew into an international workforce solutions partner, guided by First Nations wisdom and a custodial approach to business. It's still family-owned and operates across Australia, New Zealand and Canada.

Its culture is built on high care, high trust and high achievement, and it uses the Positive Intelligence program to build resilience and wellbeing across its teams. Young Guns has won the Training, Education & Development Award and the Workplace Health & Safety Award at the Australasian Supply Chain & Logistics Awards, and it shared the Supply Chain Workforce Diversity Award at the 2026 ALC Supply Chain & Logistics Awards for creating employment pathways for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

ROLE

This is a new senior role leading workforce planning and optimisation across Young Guns, reporting to the CFO. The business built its own workforce platform, Playbook, which covers demand forecasting, shift structures, allocation, time and attendance, and reporting. You'll take it to the next level.

GMs, around 30 area managers and 135 supervisors build and adjust rosters every day across self-led teams, so your success depends on how well they use what you build.

The role is based in the Brisbane head office and includes travel across Australia, New Zealand and Canada.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Set the long-term direction for workforce planning and optimisation, and turn it into a release roadmap
• Lead the next phase of Playbook, starting with optimised rostering, shift swaps and values-based rostering
• Work with the in-house IT development team, and later an external optimisation partner, to build and release tools on a three to four month cycle
• Drive adoption with GMs, area managers and supervisors, including sitting with users to work out why a tool isn't being used
• Improve forecast accuracy, retention and roster fairness across a large casual workforce
• Use user satisfaction, adoption data and employee feedback to shape each release
• Grow the function as the business scales

ABOUT YOU

• You're a Head or Manager of Workforce Planning or Optimisation, with three to five years at a senior level building or uplifting the function
• You've planned and managed a high-volume, blue-collar workforce with a large casual component
• You've built workforce tools, or bought and integrated them, and seen them through to adoption
• You can set direction and still get into the detail
• You understand how rosters drive retention, absenteeism and team stability, and you win over frontline leaders with tools that make their day easier

Your background might be in aviation, transport and logistics, warehousing, manufacturing, or hospitality and consumer services, as long as you've worked with a large blue-collar workforce.

The package includes a base salary plus super and a bonus linked to company performance.
