Site Engineering Manager - Chemical

Location: melbourne
Salary: $220000 - $260000 per annum
Job Type: temporary
Contact: Scott Logan
About the company
This company is a large chemicals producer (and Major Hazard Facility) based in Melbourne's inner-Western suburbs. What makes them unique is that they're the only operation of their specific kind in Australia and they produce a product that nobody else makes locally but is ubiquitous all the same, and they are driving sustainability (both of their business and in an environmental sense) by putting their money where their mouth is - with large (but sensible) financial investments for the future that transform the way they operate. The result of this is that unlike many operations in chemicals and chemicals-adjacent markets which face similar headwinds, they have a clear and bright future.

About the role
This role enables them to spread their resources between the 'business as usual' engineering needs of the site with the critical engineering development required for the longer term investments. The Engineering Manager leads (with the support of a large engineering team) all site based engineering activites across maintenance and reliability, major shutdowns, capital projects, and continouous improvement, in a safe and compliant way, with dilligent commercial oversight.

About you
Ideally, we're seeking someone who has experience running engineering within a chemicals environment or has experience that would be highly transferable to this:

  • Relevant engineering degree, likely mechanical or process
  • Experience managing engineering in a process driven industrial environment (petrochem, oil & gas, refineries etc)
  • Experience leading a larger team of engineers (likely at least 10 people + trades)
  • Strong relationship building skills with cross-functional peers, particularly operations

Why apply?
If you're available for a contract (18 months, fixed-term) and you're in the chemicals space, or similar, there is a lot to be excited about here - outside of the role itself being a stimulating and fulfilling one, this company is making some big plays in the market that, if approved, will have a transformative impact on their business and the broader community, the economy, and will deliver some truly world leading sustainability outcomes that filter through multiple industries. As for the basics, we can offer a remuneration package that is at least parity with comparable market roles and more that likely in excess of that, and we can offer relocation support if it is required.
