The market leader of sustainable packaging in Australia, this business creates innovative packaging solutions for all their customers. This business is currently looking for an Industrial Designer to join their team in the SE Melbourne.

About the Role
Reporting to Innovation & Design Customer Manger, this Industrial Designer will be responsible for supporting the team to explore, identify and develop new solutions to put forward to customers based on a brief. This includes exploring market data and insights, developing innovative packaging designs, and bringing the concept to life through digital models and 3D drawings. You will also be required to work with the operations team to investigate manufacturability and feasibility to put forward a well thought out concept.
 
Skills & Experience
This is an exciting and integral role within the business for future growth and your experience and skill set will include the following:
  • Develop digital models & geometry using Autodesk Inventor
  • Create concept sketches, product illustrations, technical diagrams, drawings and design specifications
  • Skilled in physical prototyping and mock-ups.
  • Conceptualise ideas and provide project deliverables using technologies including.
    • Digital Sketching
    • 3D Modelling and Rendering
  • Works proactively with all members of the I&D team including packaging engineers, graphic designers, motion graphics, account, and NPD managers.
  • Evaluate and propose design ideas based on materials and production methods, applications, appearance and functionality.
  • Able to adapt designs where required to meet budget requirements, production methods, client specifications, changes in project timelines
  • Consults with packaging engineers, graphic designers, marketing, operations, sales, NPD managers and the end customer to develop packaging design concepts.

 
Skills & Experience
  • High degree of proficiency using Autodesk Inventor software (other Autodesk Product Design Suite is beneficial but not essential)
  • A solid working understanding of Adobe Creative Suite and Keyshot
  • Must be degree qualified, with a minimum of 3 years plus industry experience in Industrial Design and/or Product design.
  • Ability to think on your feet and use initiative
  • Ability to articulate creative solutions in a clear and easy to understand way
  • Ability to give and receive constructive feedback
  • Interest and ability in fabrication for IOT and smart packaging would be beneficial (coding, electronics etc.) but not necessary
  • Sound understanding and knowledge of material substrates
  • Basic understanding and knowledge of primary packaging manufacturing techniques
