Headspace is the National Youth Mental Health Foundation, providing early intervention mental health services to thousands of young people in Australia. With over 150 centres across Australia, young people can access vital support from professionally trained mental health specialists using carefully designed programs. Headspace also provides online and phone counselling services and work, study and school services.
With youth mental health challenges becoming more prevalent, headspace plays a critical role in helping people with their mental and physical health, drug and alcohol services and work and study support.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to guide the continued strategic growth and evolution of headspace. headspace is seeking to appoint an Executive Director Strategy, Impact and Policy (EDSIP) reporting to the CEO and engaging across the organisation (including at Board level). The EDSIP plays a lead role in three key areas: strategic development and implementation, evaluation and monitoring of all headspace initiatives and programs, policy advocacy and government relations.

About you: You will be a highly experienced senior professional with a track record in the development of strategy and implementation. You may come from a strategy consulting background – delivering strategic policy and evaluation for government/government funded clients. Alternatively, your strategy and impact experience in a government funded for purpose organisation will enable you to create outcomes at headspace that are critical to long-term success. Strong leadership skills to navigate the complex inter government political and policy landscape that critical in shaping the future success of headspace’s future work and vision are a must. There will be significant exposure in working with Federal and State governments, namely health, education, and indigenous departments. - Provide advice and insights to the Board and executive on how to position and advance these interests effectively based on executive-level experience working with, or within, federal and state governments.
- Influence, position, and advocate with internal and external stakeholders, to advance the policy positions and resourcing requirements of headspace. This includes overseeing the development of advocacy proposals, funding requests and business cases to enable the development and expansion of the headspace platform to best support young people, in accordance with headspace strategic aims.
- Use effective monitoring, reporting and evaluation of service activity, outcomes, and impact, to articulate the value of headspace at the individual, family, community, and broader health sector levels.
- Lead and coordinate organisational business planning processes, in collaboration with the executive team in headspace National.
- Ensure headspace National is positioned as an authoritative voice on youth mental health issues at State and Federal government levels, overseeing policy and resourcing submissions that are supported by solid evidence and consultation
- Initiate, build, and maintain collaborative partnerships across governments nationally and the sector locally and abroad to advance delivery of youth mental health services
