We are excited to be partnerign with The Torres Strait Regional Authority for this role. The TSRA is an Australian Public Service (APS) agency, based on Thursday Island. Their staff, including rangers and scientific teams operate across all inhabited islands of the Torres Strait, from Mer in the East, to Boigu in the North and Badu in the West. They have approximately 150 employees, and 78 per cent of our employees are Torres Strait Islander and/or Aboriginal people. The TSRA’s responsibilities focus on supporting people who live in the Torres Strat region, Commercial fishing is one of the most economically important activities in the Torres Strait Protected Zone (TSPZ) and provides a significant opportunity for financial independence for the traditional inhabitants of the region.
Duties and responsibilities in this role
The Project Manager has extensive knowledge and experience in fisheries management, including scientific and economic understanding of sustainable fisheries, and the impacts of climate change on fisheries management. Some experience or background in commercial aquaculture is desirable but not essential.
The Project Manager analyses scientific and general fisheries research reports providing advice to TSRA, the Fisheries Advisory Committee, PZJA Advisory Committee Groups and Traditional Inhabitant Fishers.
The role supports and advises Traditional Inhabitant Fishers attending PZJA advisory committee meetings and other fora, working in close partnership with the Project Manager (Policy), the Project Manager Wapil and the PZJA agencies.
The Project Manager may lead a small team and is responsible for operational and financial management of agreed projects and activities, under the direction of the Programme Manager.

- Your experience in supporting staff development.
- In depth knowledge (or the ability to quickly gain such knowledge) of the Torres Strait Fisheries Act 1984, the Torres Strait Fisheries Regulations 1985 and the Native Title Act 1993 and your experience interpreting and providing advice on this legislation.
