Our Queensland Government client has a need for experienced Advisors.
In this role you will be required to provide consistent and high-quality decision making in assessments, including legal research, analysis and writing, and engagement with applicants and service providers and stakeholders both within and external to the department.
The role will suit a client focused individual with experience in working within a regulatory or compliance setting that benefits vulnerable members of the community.

- $60.25 – $68.92 per hour + Super (PAYG Agency Contractor)
- 12-week contract, possible extension

In this role you will be required to provide consistent and high-quality decision making in assessments, including legal research, analysis and writing, and engagement with applicants and service providers and stakeholders both within and external to the department.

Key responsibilities will include, but not limited to;
AO5 Advisor
- Effectively manage and action a case load of files that require risk assessments in accordance with the requirements of Part 5 of the Disability Services Act.
- Undertake risk assessments and other activities, under the relevant legislation and with reference to relevant precedent.
- Apply sound analytical skills to assessment decisions, including by conducting efficient and effective legal research and developing recommendations that are technically correct and administratively sound.
- Make evidence-based recommendations to the chief executives authorised delegates on risk assessment outcomes.
- Communicate assessment decisions to applicants and service providers in a clear and timely way (sometimes urgently to mitigate client risk).
- Obtain oral submissions from applicants to inform risk assessment decisions.
- Prepare high quality reports, briefs, and other documents.
- Provide guidance and support to administrative officers in relation to departmental policies and procedures, guidelines, and systems.
- Research legislative and administrative issues and provide accurate and timely advice to
- management on possible risk or compliance issues.
AO6 Senior Advisor
- Undertake risk assessments and other activities, under the relevant legislation and with reference to relevant precedent.
- Apply strong analytical skills to assessment decisions, including by conducting efficient and effective legal research and developing recommendations that are legally correct and administratively sound.
- Make evidence-based recommendations to senior management on screening and assessment outcomes.
- Communicate assessment decisions to applicants and service providers in a clear and timely way (sometimes urgently to mitigate client risk).
- Prepare high quality reports, briefs, and other documents.
- Maintain accurate records in the unit’s electronic databases, and comply with departmental record keeping, privacy and confidentiality requirements.
- Provide guidance and support to less senior staff in relation to departmental policies and procedures, guidelines, and systems.
- Research complex legislative and administrative issues, providing advice to senior management on
- potential compliance activities and contribute to the development of educational information and resources.
- Build and sustain positive relationships through effective communication with team members, clients and stakeholders, and private sector entities by anticipating and being responsive to client and stakeholder needs and expectations.
SELECTION CRITERIA
- Demonstrated experience working in a similar role within Government.
- The client is seeking candidates who have experience in working within regulatory or compliance settings; strong analytical and legal research skills, ability to interpret and apply legislation and guidelines, and assess risk to people with disabilities within the relevant legislative requirements.
- Must have strong communication skills, both written and oral.
- Criminal Law background highly regarded.
- Demonstrated experience working within disability services or safeguard environments will be highly regarded.
- Must be eligible to work in Australia.
