Our client is a leading supplier of agricultural fertilisers with 200 employees in Australia spanning across a number a of facilities on the Eastern Seaboard, from Tasmania to South Australia to New South Wales and Queensland.
 
Six Degrees Executive are exclusively recruiting for a newly created Assistant Operations Manager role for a blending, processing and packing facility in Newcastle.
 
The Opportunity
Reporting into the Operations Manager, you will assist in managing and supervising the operations of the depot and bulk warehouse. The Newcastle site has 10 people, running 5 days a week, on a single shift each day. It is a large, undercover site on a large block of land. At the core of it, this is a bulk blending operation with forklifts, front end loaders, excavators and hoppers. This is a small collaborative team so you will be required to jump on a forklift or front end loader to help out the team when there are staff shortages.
  • Assist in planning and coordinating the site operations to ensure the movement of fertiliser products are completed in a safe and timely manner.
  • Assist in planning and scheduling the maintenance of the plant and all its equipment.
  • Lead safety on site to make sure all team members are aligned.
  • Ensure all incoming and outgoing fertiliser products are checked and recorded appropriately in the system.
  • This is a hands on people leadership role, so day to day people management of the team including those on the floor and the office.

Skills and Experience Required
  • Previous experience in a supervisory role or people leadership role in an operational environment (e.g. operations, manufacturing, logistics, mining, construction etc.)
  • Previous experience in an environment with bulk handling of bulk materials would be preferred (e.g. grain, minerals, chemicals, waste etc.)
  • Ability to operate and/or to obtain a FEL and forklift competency and license.
  • Driver's License is required.
  • Great communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong safety mindset and risk awareness.
  • Sound literacy and numeracy skills to be able to use related computer systems and software.
