This FMCG business is a leading player in the sugar industry, committed to delivering high-quality products and services to meet the needs of their customers. They prioritize excellence, innovation, integrity, passion, safety, and teamwork in everything they do. They are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Capital Engineer to join their team.
 
As a Project Engineer, you will be at the forefront of managing the successful delivery of multiple capital works projects across various disciplines. Your role is pivotal in ensuring these projects are executed on time, within budget, and to specification while upholding the highest standards of safety, health, environment, and quality. You will serve as a key advisor, bridging the gap between capital development/execution and ongoing reliability, safety, health, environment, and operations.
 
Responsibilities:
 
  • Participate in business safety initiatives, including safety walks, to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Oversee the completion of risk assessments for project-related tasks by contractors prior to work commencement.
  • Ensure all necessary Permits to Work (e.g., Hot Work, Confined Space, Working at Height) are approved before commencing capital and contract work.
  • Participate in Root Cause Analysis for major safety incidents that occur on-site.
  • Develop and manage customer requirements and interfaces to ensure projects are scoped in line with business needs.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong working relationships with customers to facilitate project understanding and completion.
  • Strive for best practice in safety, project execution, and cost performance through continuous collaboration with site teams.
  • Efficiently manage contractors to ensure they complete work packages on time and to specification.
  • Oversee the installation and commissioning of plant and equipment to meet specifications and operability standards.
  • Ensure the formal completion of projects through established hand-over procedures and meet all documented customer requirements.
  • Provide day-to-day technical engineering support as needed.
  • Ensure timely completion and submission of monthly reports.
  • Develop project proposals and funding requests in alignment with the strategic objectives of the business.
  • Prepare, obtain, and manage tenders, contracts, quotes, and specifications as required.
  • Determine the overall cost of projects in the Capital phase and for ongoing Maintenance and Operations.
  • Provide valuable technical support and expert advice to operational sites, contributing to improved operational performance.
  • Develop and nurture effective working relationships with internal stakeholders and departments.
Requirements:
  • Trade qualified and post-trade qualifications in Engineering or a Bachelor of Engineering.
  • A minimum of 3 years of project engineering and management experience in manufacturing or heavy industries.
  • Proven experience in managing multi-disciplined projects.
  • Exposure to continuous improvement or lean principles is a plus.
  • Possess analytical and systematic thinking abilities, with strong communication, negotiation, and record-keeping capabilities.
  • Demonstrated conceptual thinking, flexibility, adaptability, and the ability to influence.
