About MND Australia:

MND Australia is the national peak body representing the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA), a coalition of state-based organizations committed to supporting individuals living with and affected by Motor Neurone Disease (MND). Established in 1993, MND Australia has been a tireless advocate for the MND community, dedicated to increasing awareness and understanding of this debilitating disease. The organization champions the needs of those impacted by MND and plays a vital role in advancing world-class research for improved treatments, enhanced care, and, ultimately, a cure.
 
Position Overview:

MND Australia is seeking a volunteer Non-Executive Director / Treasurer to join the organization's Board of Directors. This role carries significant responsibilities, ensuring that MND Australia achieves its strategic objectives and continues to be the peak voice for the MND community. This is an exceptional opportunity for a dedicated and passionate individual to make a profound and lasting impact in the battle against MND.
 
Key Responsibilities:
 
  • Governance Leadership: Collaborate closely with the President and fellow Board members to provide strategic leadership and guidance to MND Australia.
  • Strategic Planning: Contribute to the development and execution of the organization's strategic plan, ensuring alignment with MND Australia's mission and values.
  • Advocacy and Awareness: Support initiatives to raise awareness about MND, advocate for the needs of individuals and families impacted by the disease and represent MND Australia at various events and engagements.
  • Investment, Audit and Risk Oversight: As Chair of the Finance, Audit and Risk Management (FARM) Committee, you will drive the setting and execution of MND Australia’s investment strategy, financial sustainability, audit of its financial accounts and identification, monitoring and mitigation of relevant risks.
  • Budget: As Chair of the FARM Committee, assess Management’s budget proposals on an annual basis and make recommendations to the Board regarding the same.
  • Committee Engagement: Actively participate in relevant committees (finance) leveraging your financial expertise to drive specific initiatives forward.
  • Networking: Utilize your professional network to establish connections and partnerships that advance MND Australia's mission.
 

Qualifications:
 
  • Alignment with Mission: A strong commitment to the mission and values of MND Australia.
  • Outstanding communication, interpersonal, and networking skills.
  • Team Player: Proven ability to work effectively within a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
  • Strategic Thinker: Possess a track record of contributing to an organization's growth and success through strategic thinking.
  • Non-Profit Knowledge: Familiarity with the not-for-profit sector and experience in advocacy and fundraising are advantageous.
Candidates with a CA/CPA qualification, AICD or similar governance qualification and/or non-executive / financial leadership experience are desirable for this role.
