MND Australia is the national peak body representing the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA), which is comprised of state-based organizations dedicated to supporting individuals living with and impacted by Motor Neurone Disease (MND). Since its establishment in 1993, MND Australia has been a vital voice for the MND community, working tirelessly to increase awareness and understanding of this devastating disease. The organization advocates for the needs of those affected by MND and plays a significant role in funding world-class research for better treatments, improved care, and ultimately, a cure.

Position Overview

MND Australia is seeking a Deputy Chair (Non-Executive Independent Director) to play a pivotal role in guiding and supporting the organization's mission. The Deputy Chair will work closely with the President and the Board of Directors, ensuring the organization's strategic objectives are met and that it continues to effectively advocate for the MND community. This is a unique opportunity for a passionate and dedicated individual to contribute to this cause and make a lasting impact in the fight against MND.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Governance Leadership: Collaborate with the President and fellow Board members to provide strategic leadership and guidance to MND Australia.
  • Strategic Planning: Participate in the development and implementation of the organization's strategic plan, ensuring alignment with the mission and values of MND Australia.
  • Advocacy and Awareness: Support efforts to raise awareness about MND, advocate for the needs of individuals and families affected by the disease, and represent MND Australia at various events and engagements.
  • Fundraising and Financial Oversight: Assist in fundraising initiatives and provide financial oversight to ensure the organization's fiscal health and sustainability.
  • Committee Engagement: Actively participate in committees and task forces as required, leveraging your expertise to drive specific initiatives forward.
  • Risk Management: Contribute to the assessment and management of risks and opportunities facing MND Australia.
  • Networking: Utilize your professional network to facilitate connections and partnerships that benefit MND Australia's mission.
 
Qualifications:
  • AICD or similar governance qualification
  • Proven experience as a Non-Executive Director or in a similar leadership role.
  • A strong commitment to the mission and values of MND Australia.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and networking skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
  • Strategic thinking and a track record of contributing to an organization's growth and success.
  • Knowledge of the not-for-profit sector and experience in advocacy and fundraising are advantageous.
