People often say that motivation doesn't last. Well, neither does bathing - that's why we recommend it daily. ~Zig Ziglar
Has winter got you firmly in its grasp? Are you finding it hard to get motivated to get through the last of it? You are not alone. It’s hard to get out of bed on those cold mornings and keeping your usual drive and enthusiasm through the blustery conditions is impossible.
How do we get through these months, without losing momentum in our careers and lives? There is a way to reverse the mental and emotional drain that the single digit temperatures deliver. Here are some tips to stay motivated through the last of the cold days.
- Plan your day and create attainable goals. Don’t get to the office overwhelmed with a huge list of things you need to do. Write a daily plan and identify one item you can do immediately that will move you closer to your goal. It’s all in the mindset!
- Get inspired. Think outside the box here. If you’re lacking inspiration at work, have a think about what else can inspire you to excel. Perhaps it’s hitting a bigger bonus target and rewarding yourself with that beach holiday in spring, it could be paying off a credit card, or adopting a healthy eating plan to get ready for summer.
- Be Social. No matter how busy your work day may seem, you need to take the time to be social within your workplace. You won’t be the only one suffering winter blues, so try to keep the conversations positive and light hearted. Discuss your plans for spring and summer.
- Exercise. Your body and mind will thank you for it. So will your summer clothes! Too cold to run outside you say? Go and try Bikram Yoga, a practice that exercises your mind and body in 37 degrees celsius. No more excuses!
- Think positively. Thinking positively about the small changes you have incorporated into your routine helps to ensure success, even on the toughest winter days.
Embrace the last of the icy days and plan some fun winter activities (a visit to the snow perhaps?), it won’t be long before we are complaining about the heat.
Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going. ~Jim Ryun
