Riviana Foods is one of Australia's leading food importers and distributors, with a rich history spanning 70+ years and strong relationships across corporate grocery and foodservice markets. Boasting a diverse product portfolio and a well established technical team, Riviana is primed to continue to grow market share in existing and emerging categories. Part of the Sunrice Group, this role will also support the Coprice business unit, their animal food division active across livestock and pet categories.



About the role

Newly created and supporting a wider technical team, the Packaging Technologist will be the subject matter expert driving innovation and CI across both the Riviana Foods and Coprice business units. Working extensively with external suppliers, manufacturing and the internal technical team, the Packaging Technologist will have a mandate to drive sustainability and new product innovation activities across both primary and secondary packaging. Core aspects of the role will include:
  • Sustainable Packaging - Working towards immediate and longer term strategy in partnership with internal and external stakeholders on packaging, materials substitution and waste reduction. 

  • New Product Development - Driving best practice innovation across packaging outcomes, both new and existing across the wider technical team. This may include innovation of existing primary and secondary packaging offering, new-to-market products and partnering with supply chain/procurement/technical stakeholders to comprehensively support commercially viable packaging outcomes.

  • Innovation and technical support - Working closely with both owned and third party manufacturers to ensure packaging feasibility, while staying across new and emerging trends in consumer packaging across a range of material categories.


Skills/expertise required

  • Demonstrated experience in a technical role within the FMCG space, either purely within the packaging function or across technical with experience in packaging projects
  • Sound knowledge of packaging materials and structures across various textiles including rigid, flexible and glass
  • Commercial acumen, an understanding of how to balance best practice with commercially viable solutions
  • Strong understanding of APCO requirements
