HSEQ Manager

Location: melbourne
Job Type: permanent
Salary: $
Contact: Robert Scacco
About the opportunity

Six Degrees is proud to partner with a leading complex manufacturing organisation with a difference - this industry-led initiative is a critical part of the circular economy agenda, having found a way to commercialise end-of-life product and divert waste from landfill and the environment. This opportunity is unlike any other HSE(Q) leadership role on the market - partnering with an operational not-for-profit, brand new commissioned site in Melbourne's south-eastern suburbs and an exciting opportunity to get in at the ground floor of the next iteration of the business.

About the role
The HSEQ Manager will largely be responsible for driving the site safety and environment agenda, with some bolted on responsibility around quality compliance. This is a regulated environment with a focus on product stewardship, sustainability and safe materials handling, so the HSEQ Manager will form a critical part of the leadership team at site level. The site is currently in scale-up, so working around a current vs. future state strategy for HSE is critical.

From a day to day perspective, your key responsibilities will include:
  • Leading the development, implementation and continuous care of the HSE Management system
  • Ensuring compliance with a range of legislation and external bodies including WHS, EPA, Worksafe, local council etc.
  • Provide guidance, training and support to operational and leadership teams of HSE best practice
  • Liaise with regulators, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure safe and compliant operations.
What we are looking for:
This role would best suit an aspiring HSE leader who has come out of a high risk environment - operations, supply chain, materials handling etc. that is building into their leadership career. This role requires agility, a good understanding of technical subject matter but more importantly, the people skills to work with a variety of technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Relevant qualifications in WHS, Environmental Management or a related discipline.
  • Experience within a dedicated safety role, ideally either pure OH&S or HSE, within an operational environment
  • Experience within dangerous goods or chemical manufacturing well regarded but not essential
  • Strong communication skills, capable of reporting at senior leadership level as well as engaging frontline workforce
