About the Business
We are partnering with one of Australia’s largest and most established retail groups to appoint a senior SEO leader into a high-impact, enterprise-level role.  This organisation operates a multi-brand portfolio across Australia and New Zealand, with a significant store network, substantial ecommerce scale, and an extensive product catalogue spanning thousands of SKUs. The digital channel is a critical growth driver, underpinned by ongoing investment in platform capability, data infrastructure and cross-functional integration. Organic search is recognised as a core commercial lever, with executive visibility and clear performance accountability.  This is a rare opportunity to shape and lead enterprise SEO strategy within a nationally recognised retail environment.

About the Role
Reporting into senior digital leadership, you will own the end-to-end SEO strategy across multiple high-traffic retail sites. The remit spans both online revenue growth and the broader influence of search on in-store performance.
Key responsibilities include:
  • Defining and delivering a multi-year SEO strategy across technical, content and authority pillars
  • Leading large-scale technical initiatives, including site architecture optimisation, crawl management, indexation, rendering considerations and Core Web Vitals improvements
  • Embedding SEO principles into digital product development and transformation programs
  • Designing and implementing scalable content frameworks across extensive category and product ranges
  • Driving non-brand organic growth within a highly competitive retail landscape
  • Establishing robust experimentation, measurement and reporting frameworks that clearly link organic performance to revenue outcomes
  • Building and evolving the organisation’s approach to AI-led search, including developing a forward-looking LLM search strategy to ensure visibility across emerging generative search experiences
  • Providing leadership and development to an in-house SEO team, alongside effective management of specialist agency partners
You will work closely with Digital Product, Engineering, Customer Experience, Merchandising and Marketing stakeholders. Success will depend on your ability to influence at senior levels, translate technical complexity into commercial outcomes, and align multiple teams behind a unified organic growth agenda.

About the Candidate
We are seeking an experienced SEO leader with a strong track record operating within large retail or enterprise ecommerce environments.  You will demonstrate:
  • Deep technical SEO expertise across complex, high-SKU websites
  • Experience leading enterprise-scale SEO programs with measurable commercial impact
  • A strong understanding of evolving search behaviour, including AI-driven and LLM-based discovery models
  • The ability to navigate and influence within a large, matrixed organisation
  • Strong commercial acumen, translating traffic and visibility gains into revenue and margin outcomes
  • A strategic mindset combined with hands-on execution capability
Candidates may come from a leading retailer or from an agency background with significant exposure to major retail portfolios. What is essential is experience at scale and confidence operating in a complex, performance-driven environment.  This is a strategically important appointment within a highly recognisable national retailer undergoing continued digital evolution. It offers genuine scope, executive visibility and the opportunity to define how SEO, including AI-led search strategy, contributes to long-term growth.
