Job Type: permanent

About Australian Pork Limited
Australian Pork Limited (APL) is the peak industry body for Australia's pig producers, operating under the Pig Industry Act 2001. Unlike any other Research and Development Corporation, APL combines three distinct functions under one levy-funded structure: effective marketing, impactful research and proactive policy and advocacy. This unique tri-mandate makes APL the genuine 'unicorn' of the RDC sector.
With an annual budget of approximately $25M, 47 staff across Australia and a $6.9 billion industry it serves, APL has significant reach and standing. Over the past seven years, the organisation has transformed its relationships — with producers, the pork supply chain, governments, retailers, and across agriculture.
APL's 2025–2030 Strategic Plan targets $1 billion in additional farmgate value by 2030, with ambitions across growing domestic fresh pork demand, export market diversification, sustainable productivity through R&D and advancing industry integrity.

The Opportunity
After seven years of strong, consistent leadership, the outgoing CEO is leaving APL in its best position in a decade. This is not a turnaround — it is a succession. The incoming CEO steps into a platform that is funded, trusted and performing, with genuine strategic headroom.
The next CEO will guide the next phase of growth: continuing to increase demand for Australia’s second most consumed meat, expanding APL's whole-of-supply-chain remit, navigating the multi-jurisdictional animal welfare standards reform process, protecting government-matched R&D funding and growing export market value toward $275M by 2030.

The Role — Key Accountability Areas

Strategic Leadership

Guide APL's evolving strategy with calm, big-picture leadership. Translate the 2025–2030 plan into clear annual priorities and carry the industry forward.

Government Relations and Policy

Be the trusted advisor governments call before decisions are made. Protect APL's statutory funding and navigate complex regulatory terrain with credibility across party lines.

Stakeholder Trust & Industry Leadership

Own the relationships that matter — from levy-payers, APL members, state pork groups, retailers, governments and exporters. Balance major and minor interests with consistency.

People, Culture & Operations

Lead a stable, high-performing team of 47. Inherit strong executive capability and provide strategic oversight and cultural stewardship.

  • Composure, resilience and the ability to stay strategic under industry pressure
  • Strong media relations experience
  • Genuine humility
  • Willingness to travel, including regular presence in Canberra, with flexibility on primary location

Why Apply?

  • Real strategic scope — evolving supply chain remit, export growth, welfare standards reform
  • A stable, committed team and an engaged, supportive Board with continuity through transition
