About the company
Six Degrees Executive is proud to be partnering with a well-established agribusiness to recruit an Operations Manager for their Townsville operation.

The business operates across a national network and plays an important role in the supply and distribution of agricultural products across regional Australia.

This Townsville site is a hands-on operational environment, with a small permanent team that increases during peak season.
The site has a strong focus on safety, operational reliability, customer service, and improving how work is planned and executed.

This role would suit a practical Operations Manager or Site Manager who enjoys leading from the floor, getting the best out of people, and improving performance in a manual, industrial, or bulk handling environment.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day site operations across production, logistics, safety, maintenance coordination, and customer service.
  • Manage a core team of operational staff, with headcount increasing during seasonal peak periods.
  • Ensure site activities are completed safely, efficiently, and in line with company procedures.
  • Lead WHSE standards on site, including risk management, training, consultation, and safe work practices.
  • Coordinate maintenance planning for plant, equipment, and site infrastructure to minimise downtime.
  • Identify and implement practical continuous improvement initiatives to improve efficiency and reliability.
  • Manage incoming and outgoing product movements, stock handling, storage, and dispatch requirements.
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders across operations, commercial, logistics, customer service, and safety.
  • Liaise with contractors, transport providers, suppliers, customers, and other external stakeholders.
  • Support site administration, reporting, compliance, records management, and operational planning.
  • Manage competing priorities during seasonal peaks while maintaining safety, quality, and service standards.

Skills and experience

  • Experience in an Operations Manager, Site Manager, Production Manager, Quarry Manager, Depot Manager, or senior supervisory role.
  • Background in manufacturing, bulk handling, logistics, quarrying, agriculture, industrial services, transport, mining services, or similar environments.
  • Strong people leadership experience, with the ability to manage, coach, and develop operational teams.
  • Practical understanding of maintenance planning, plant reliability, equipment uptime, and contractor coordination.
  • Strong WHSE focus, with experience leading safe work practices in an operational environment.
  • Ability to work autonomously, make sound decisions, and manage a site without constant oversight.
  • Experience managing seasonal demand, peak workload periods, or fluctuating operational requirements.
  • Commercial awareness, including exposure to budgets, costs, purchasing, labour planning, or site KPIs.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work with internal teams, customers, suppliers, and contractors.
  • Forklift, front-end loader, or other mobile plant tickets would be highly regarded but are not essential.
  • Practical, hands-on leadership style with a focus on safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
