Six Degrees Executive is proud to be partnering with a large Queensland Government infrastructure delivery organisation in the recruitment of a Senior Environmental Officer to support a major transport infrastructure project based on the Gold Coast. Reporting to the Project Manager, this role will play a key part in providing specialist environmental advice, supporting environmental approvals, and ensuring environmental compliance and sustainability is embedded throughout project delivery.

This opportunity will suit an experienced environmental professional with strong working knowledge of environmental legislation, approvals processes, and infrastructure project delivery. You will be comfortable operating across multiple project phases, providing high-level technical advice, and working closely with internal teams, government stakeholders, and external advisors.

As the Senior Environmental Officer, you will:
  • Provide high-level advice on statutory obligations under relevant environmental legislation, including Commonwealth and State requirements
  • Assist in the delivery of environmental approvals and offsets for major infrastructure works
  • Provide specialist advice across environmental assessment, compliance, management, and implementation throughout the project lifecycle
  • Review project design, environmental surveys, spatial data, reports, Environmental Management Plans, specifications, audits, and briefing materials
  • Identify environmental risks and problem areas and work with project teams to negotiate design or delivery modifications as required
  • Support sound environmental management and infrastructure sustainability outcomes across the program of works
  • Coordinate and project manage the acquisition of environmental offsets and project land in partnership with internal teams and external advisors
  • Liaise effectively with internal stakeholders, State and Local Government agencies, and industry representatives
  • Prepare high-level written and verbal advice, including briefing notes and ministerial correspondence as required
  • Represent the project in meetings, working groups, and stakeholder forums
Selection Criteria:
To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:
  • Experience providing specialist environmental advice within infrastructure, transport, engineering, or major project environments
  • Strong knowledge of environmental legislation, approvals, compliance, and risk management
  • Experience supporting environmental assessments and approvals processes across project delivery phases
  • Strong written communication skills, including the preparation of briefings and formal correspondence
  • The ability to engage with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Sound judgement, initiative, and the ability to identify and manage environmental risks proactively
Mandatory Requirements:
  • A degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Management, Natural Resource Management, or equivalent qualification
  • Current C class driver’s licence
  • Ability to complete criminal history screening prior to commencement
