Six Degrees Executive is partnering with a large Queensland Government department to recruit a Senior Environmental Officer to support the delivery of a major, multi-billion-dollar transport infrastructure program in North Brisbane.
This role will provide specialist environmental expertise across complex infrastructure works, supporting environmental management, sustainability, Cultural Heritage, approvals, compliance and legislative obligations throughout project delivery.
This is a site-based role located in North Brisbane, with full-time attendance required on site. Limited flexibility may be available by exception, subject to operational needs and management approval. Occasional work outside standard hours may be required, with applicable loading.
About the role
As the Senior Environmental Officer, you will provide dedicated environmental support across a major road infrastructure program, managing multiple concurrent environmental workstreams and supporting the effective management of environmental risks, approvals and compliance requirements.
You will work closely with project teams, specialist consultants and regulatory agencies to ensure environmental obligations are clearly understood, integrated into project schedules, and delivered in line with critical project milestones.

To be successful in this role, you will bring strong environmental experience within infrastructure design and delivery environments, ideally within major road or transport projects. You will be confident working across approvals, compliance, environmental risk, technical documentation and stakeholder coordination in a complex project environment.
You will also be able to manage competing priorities, provide practical environmental advice, and work collaboratively with internal teams, consultants and regulatory stakeholders.

About the role
As the Senior Environmental Officer, you will provide dedicated environmental support across a major road infrastructure program, managing multiple concurrent environmental workstreams and supporting the effective management of environmental risks, approvals and compliance requirements.
You will work closely with project teams, specialist consultants and regulatory agencies to ensure environmental obligations are clearly understood, integrated into project schedules, and delivered in line with critical project milestones.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing specialist environmental and technical advice to support compliance with relevant State and Commonwealth legislative frameworks, including the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999.
- Supporting EPBC Act processes, including the preparation, coordination and review of referrals, self-assessment requests, Public Environmental Reports and supporting technical documentation.
- Assisting with the coordination and submission of EPBC referrals, ensuring regulatory requirements, assessment pathways and project timeframes are aligned.
- Reviewing draft environmental permits, licences, approvals and technical documentation.
- Assisting with the establishment and ongoing management of environmental offset contracts, including offset management, maintenance, reporting and compliance requirements.
- Supporting environmental approval pathways, including Compliance Management Plans relating to contaminated materials and PFAS-affected materials.
- Reviewing design packages and documentation relating to fauna management, water quality, site establishment, erosion and sediment control, and fencing layouts.
- Reviewing Environmental Design Reports, Environmental Management Plans and specialist technical reports.
- Supporting Infrastructure Sustainability Council ratings assessments through evidence coordination, compliance checks and reporting.
- Attending and contributing to monthly environmental meetings, including updates on progress, risks and actions.
- Coordinating with project teams, consultants and regulatory agencies to ensure environmental requirements, survey needs, mitigation measures and approval timeframes are clearly identified and communicated.
- Undertaking construction site inspections and audits to verify compliance with environmental plans, approvals and project requirements.
- Responding to environmental enquiries and contributing environmental input into design development, construction activities, governance papers and project documentation.
- Identifying and managing environmental risks and issues that may impact delivery, approvals, cost or reputation.
To be successful in this role, you will bring strong environmental experience within infrastructure design and delivery environments, ideally within major road or transport projects. You will be confident working across approvals, compliance, environmental risk, technical documentation and stakeholder coordination in a complex project environment.
You will also be able to manage competing priorities, provide practical environmental advice, and work collaboratively with internal teams, consultants and regulatory stakeholders.
Mandatory requirements:
- Degree qualification from a tertiary institute in environmental science, Cultural Heritage management, natural resource management, environmental engineering or an equivalent qualification.
- Current Class C driver’s licence.
- Minimum 5 years’ relevant experience in infrastructure design and delivery environments.
- Experience supporting the construction or delivery of major road projects.
- Strong understanding of environmental approvals, compliance obligations and environmental risk management.
- Experience with EPBC Act processes, environmental offsets, contaminated land, PFAS-related requirements, and Infrastructure Sustainability Council ratings will be highly regarded.
