Divisional CEO - Mining Technology
| Location: | sydney |
| Salary: | $300000 - $340000 per annum, Benefits: STI & LTI |
| Job Type: | permanent |
| Contact: | Ben Maurer |
THE COMPANY
Very rarely a completely new innovation in technology has the potential to be a game-changer at a global level in the mining sector – this is one of those moments. Born from two decades of Australian innovation through CSIRO, this business has developed an advanced and unique sensing platform that measures the grade of minerals in real time as it moves along a conveyor belt – a world first. The result: mines recover more minerals from each site, lose less to landfill or waste and consume significantly less energy and water in the process. The technology is proven, deployed with Tier 1 operators across three continents, and technically suited to 35 per cent of the world’s copper mines with applications also for gold and lithium and additional R&D focused on expanding the mineral detection capability. With a clear pathway to potential IPO or trade sale, the business is now at a critical point — moving from validation to global scale. The opportunity ahead is transformative.
THE ROLE
As CEO of the mining division, you will carry full accountability for vision and strategy, commercial growth, supplier partnerships, team development, R&D and global expansion — operating within an executive leadership team and reporting to a group CEO and Board. This is a scale-up remit in the truest sense: the technology works, the market is ready, the pipeline is there and your job is to drive adoption at pace. You will build and convert an existing commercial pipeline across copper, gold and lithium markets, securing major agreements with Tier 1 and Tier 2 miners from Australia and Asia-Pacific through to South America. You will influence operations, installations, and in-field service delivery while building the commercial infrastructure — people, process, and partner relationships with EPCMs, OEMs and suppliers — needed to grow without limits. P&L experience is essential; so is an appetite for deal-making with long-cycle, complex buyers that necessitates stakeholder influencing from mining site leadership up to C-suite and Board level.
THE PERSON
You have walked mine sites and boardrooms with equal credibility. You understand the metallurgist’s priorities, the processing engineer’s constraints, the CFO’s investment logic and Boards’ focus on shareholder returns — and you know how to navigate them all through to delivery and installation. Your track record is in selling complex capital equipment, automation or technology solutions into major mining environments, and you have the proven experience navigating long procurement cycles, conservative buyers and overcoming sometimes competing priorities. You will be strong commercially and understand mining economics and have a global mindset, bringing deep industry knowledge of global mining operations across copper, gold and lithium. Exposure to leading R&D and innovation would be an advantage. You will be a natural problem solver who can navigate solutions that include changes to site operations whilst engaging C-suite or Board level clients on the commercial returns to their bottom line.
Technical expertise in the form of tertiary qualifications in metallurgy, mining engineering or geology is almost essential, business degree or similar preferred. Whether you come from a mining technology OEM, a CSIRO-backed deep-tech business or the mining industry itself with a strong commercial edge, what defines you is this: you close deals, you build teams & relationships and you grow businesses. Copper, gold and lithium are your markets. Global is your mindset.
This role is ideally based in Sydney however other locations across Australia will be considered including Perth or Brisbane noting international and domestic travel will be required.
