We are currently supporting Tassal, owner of the the country’s leading salmon brand and one of Australia's largest vertically integrated food producers with an an enviable story of growth that has taken its products to millions of Australian consumers and beyond.   Having grown from Tasmanian roots into an $800 million-plus operation spanning salmon, prawns and barramundi and now owned by Canadian seafood group Cooke Inc., Tassal still runs with genuine autonomy from Hobart, and is still responsible for setting its own strategy and capital agenda.
We are looking for a commercially astute finance leader to take ownership of the Commercial Finance function in a role with real influence over how an iconic Australian business invests, prices and grows.

The Role
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, you'll lead a team of six direct reports and eleven in total, spanning FP&A, site finance, capital project finance and R&D investment tracking. You'll own:
  • Capital project tracking and cash flow optimisation across a capital-intensive, multi-site operation
  • Margin and commercial insight across three divisions including a mandate to both support and critique areas like trade spend and promotional activity
  • The management reporting suite, and the monthly business review that anchors its Integrated Business Planning process
  • Refinement and delivery of a commercial finance technology roadmap spanning Microsoft BI, Anaplan and Snowflake
  • The development of a talented lean team, building the FP&A discipline and business partnering capability the business needs for its next phase of growth
About You
  • A proven senior commercial finance leader, operating at either CFO, Finance Director, GM Commercial Finance, Head of FP&A, or equivalent, ideally from FMCG, food, agribusiness or another asset-intensive, margin focussed business.
  • Strong in all aspects of P&L management, capital allocation and cash flow, with the confidence to challenge business cases or a trade spend with data driven insights
  • A track record of building and structuring finance teams, along with developing capability of existing team members.
  • Comfortable engaging credibly with finance systems and data platforms without needing to be the technical expert in the room
  • A leader who wants real autonomy and is energised by a business that is investing and expanding
Why this role
This is a business with scale, momentum and ownership of its strategic decisions.  You'll work alongside an exceptional leadership team and genuine industry experts on a multi-functional growth agenda backed by capital investment that is tangible and on-going. With a strong culture and a clear strategic roadmap, this is an exciting time to be joining.

Why Tasmania
For mainland candidates, this role comes with a lifestyle upgrade most job changes can't offer.
  • Hobart is a genuine waterfront capital, with a 20-minute commute to work and a restaurant, arts and coffee culture (MONA, Salamanca Market, a world-class food and wine scene) of a much bigger city
  • Housing and living costs remain materially more accessible than Sydney or Melbourne, without trading away quality of schools, healthcare or amenity
  • Direct flights connect Hobart to Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Adelaide in under two hours
  • Tasmania's wine regions, beaches, wilderness and produce culture are minutes rather than hours from the CBD
  • You'll be joining a well-known Tasmanian corporate name, with genuine standing in a tight-knit business community where senior leaders are known and respected
  • Relocation assistance available
