Maintenance Manager

Location: melbourne
Salary: Competitive
Job Type: permanent
Contact: David Oliver
Six Degrees Executive are delighted to be partnering with a leading food manufacturing business to recruit an experienced Maintenance Manager for a key manufacturing operation based in Melbourne’s northern suburbs.

Operating within a highly automated, 24/7 manufacturing environment, the site is an important part of the broader national network. With strong employee engagement, an established maintenance team and further growth planned, this is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on maintenance leader to take ownership of the site’s maintenance and reliability function.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Site Manager, the Maintenance Manager will lead a team of skilled tradespeople alongside an experienced Maintenance Planner, with responsibility for the performance, reliability and ongoing development of the site’s manufacturing assets.

The site has made strong progress in reducing unplanned downtime and improving reliability. The next phase is focused on building on these foundations – further developing the maintenance team, strengthening preventative maintenance practices, optimising the use of the site’s CMMS and continuing the transition away from paper-based processes towards a more streamlined and digitally enabled maintenance function.

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Lead, coach and develop the site maintenance team, creating clear accountability and alignment around site priorities.
  • Drive a strong balance between preventative, planned and corrective maintenance to maximise plant reliability and availability.
  • Manage maintenance expenditure effectively, with strong planning, forecasting and commercial discipline.
  • Improve and optimise the use of the site’s CMMS, increasing system utilisation and reducing reliance on manual and paper-based processes.
  • Work closely with Production, Engineering and other site stakeholders to identify reliability opportunities and minimise unplanned downtime.
  • Provide practical, hands-on leadership and technical support to the maintenance team when required.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across maintenance practices, systems and asset performance.
  • Effectively manage external contractors and specialist maintenance support where required.
About You

We are looking for an experienced maintenance leader who combines strong technical capability with the communication and people leadership skills required to bring a team together.
Ideally, you will bring:
  • A mechanical, electrical trade or engineering background, with strong practical knowledge across manufacturing equipment and maintenance.
  • Previous experience leading maintenance teams within food, FMCG or a similarly fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Strong experience across preventative and corrective maintenance programs.
  • Sound commercial capability and experience managing maintenance expenditure.
  • Experience working with CMMS platforms, with the ability to improve system utilisation and maintenance planning disciplines.
  • A track record of developing, rebuilding or aligning maintenance teams around broader operational objectives.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across Maintenance, Production and Engineering.
  • A practical, visible and hands-on approach to maintenance leadership.
Why Join?

This is an opportunity to join a leading food manufacturing business and a site with a highly engaged culture and strong foundations already in place.
Rather than stepping into a heavily reactive maintenance environment, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to build on recent reliability improvements, further develop an engaged team and shape the next phase of the maintenance function.

With a highly automated manufacturing environment, further growth opportunities and genuine scope to improve systems, reliability and ways of working, this is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Maintenance Manager looking to make a tangible impact.
