Senior Manager, Product & Proposition Development

Join one of the world’s leading professional services and consulting organisations, advising some of Australia’s largest and most complex businesses on the issues shaping their future.  With deep expertise spanning strategy, transformation, technology, risk, deals, tax and assurance, the organisation works at the heart of major industry change. Its teams partner with senior executives and Boards to navigate complex challenges, respond to disruption and identify new opportunities for growth.  As client needs evolve and AI, technology and new delivery models reshape professional services, the organisation sees significant opportunity to rethink how its expertise is packaged, commercialised and taken to market. This includes turning specialist capability, intellectual property and emerging ideas into clearly defined, differentiated and increasingly scalable products and propositions.  To support this, the organisation is establishing a new Product & Proposition Development capability, designed to bring greater commercial discipline to how opportunities are identified, validated, developed and ultimately taken to market.  The Senior Manager, Product & Proposition Development will play a key role in building this capability.  This is not a traditional Product Manager role. You won't inherit an established product portfolio or roadmap. Instead, you'll work at the front end of product and proposition development, taking early-stage ideas and existing capabilities and determining whether there is a genuine market opportunity, what the proposition should be, how it should make money and how it can scale.

The Role
Working with senior Partners and subject matter experts from across the organisation, you will:
  • Identify and prioritise new commercial opportunities arising from client needs, market shifts, regulatory change, AI, technology and existing organisational capability.
  • Take B2B products, services and propositions from concept through validation and into commercial readiness.
  • Define the customer problem, target audience, value proposition and market opportunity, testing whether there is genuine demand before significant investment is made.
  • Turn specialist expertise, intellectual property and loosely defined services into clear, differentiated and marketable propositions.
  • Develop business cases, pricing strategies and commercial models, considering revenue potential, cost to serve, margin and scalability.
  • Explore alternative commercial models including subscriptions, managed services, technology-enabled services, partnerships, white-labelling and other recurring or repeatable revenue opportunities.
  • Determine the most effective route to market, including direct, partner-led and digitally enabled models.
  • Identify opportunities to use AI, automation and technology to productise expertise, enhance the customer experience and create more scalable delivery models.
  • Bring together senior stakeholders across technical, commercial, technology, risk, marketing and go-to-market functions to progress opportunities.
  • Challenge ideas and assumptions constructively, including recommending when an opportunity isn't commercially viable or shouldn't be pursued.
  • Take propositions to a point of commercial readiness before partnering with Marketing and Business Development to activate them in market.
  • Help establish a repeatable product and proposition development approach, initially proving the model through selected opportunities before scaling the capability more broadly.
About You
You have proven track record in operating across product development, proposition strategy, innovation and commercialisation, rather than a conventional product specialist.  You will ideally bring:
  • Experience taking B2B products, services or propositions from concept through validation to commercial readiness, turning early-stage ideas into clearly defined market offers.
  • Strong commercial instincts, able to assess whether there is a genuine customer problem, who will pay for it, the size of the opportunity, potential margins and whether to build, partner, white-label or walk away.
  • Experience developing business cases, pricing and commercial models, ideally including subscriptions, managed services, technology-enabled services or other scalable and repeatable revenue models.
  • Strong customer and market validation capability, potentially gained through proposition development, innovation, service design, strategy, consulting or new ventures rather than a traditional Product Manager pathway.
  • Confidence operating in ambiguity, quickly interrogating unfamiliar opportunities, finding the right information and determining what needs to happen next without needing to be the technical subject matter expert.
  • The credibility to influence and challenge senior stakeholders, refining ideas, challenging commercial assumptions and helping determine which opportunities should progress.
  • A strong understanding of AI and technology-enabled delivery, particularly how technology can change the proposition, delivery model, economics, scalability and customer experience.
Relevant backgrounds could include strategy and consulting, technology, professional services, managed services, innovation or new ventures. Strategic agency experience could also translate where the remit has extended beyond communications into proposition development, customer strategy and commercial problem-solving.  The organisation is particularly interested in bringing fresh thinking into this capability rather than simply replicating traditional professional services approaches.

The Opportunity
This is a chance to build rather than inherit.  The capability is new, providing the opportunity to influence not only individual propositions but also how a major global professional services organisation approaches product development and commercialisation more broadly.  You'll work directly with senior leaders on opportunities at varying stages of maturity, from raw ideas through to established services that have never been properly packaged or scaled. The challenge will be to determine which ideas have genuine potential, what needs to be true for them to succeed and how to turn them into propositions customers will actually buy.  For someone who enjoys ambiguous commercial problems, challenging conventional business models and turning ideas into scalable opportunities, this is a rare chance to help shape a new capability from the ground up.
