| Salary: | Executive remuneration package, commensurate with the NTG ECO5 classification |
| Job Type: | permanent |
| Contact: | Ryan Webster |
The Northern Territory’s mineral and energy resources are central to the Territory Government’s plans for economic growth and energy security, helping to unlock the opportunities the NT can deliver for Territorians, industry and the economy. The Department of Mining and Energy (DME) leads that work, from geoscience and exploration through to mining and petroleum regulation, legacy mine remediation and the design of the Territory's electricity systems. With major projects and reforms underway, including development of the Darwin Energy Hub, the Remote Power Partnership program and electricity market reform, an opportunity has arisen for an accomplished executive to lead the Department as Chief Executive Officer.
Reporting to the Minister for Mining and Energy, the CEO will turn the Territory Government's resources and energy priorities into action, providing timely, strategic and commercially grounded advice to the Minister and Government. At its core, DME is an industry regulator, and the CEO will ensure regulation under the Territory's mining, petroleum and energy legislation is effective, efficient and trusted. Equally, the CEO will make sure the Territory is open for business, with timely decisions and practical support that help projects and businesses move from proposal to operation. Leading improvement and fresh thinking in how the Department regulates and facilitates investment, overseeing the path to secure, reliable, affordable and sustainable electricity, and maintaining strong governance and financial discipline will all be central. As a member of the CEO Coordination Committee, the CEO will work alongside fellow chief executives as part of a connected leadership group, and build trusted relationships with industry, investors, land councils, Traditional Owners and Territory communities.
You will be an accomplished senior executive with strong commercial and financial acumen, and experience leading a regulatory function, major portfolio or organisation in the resources, energy or broader economic sector. You will bring sound economic judgement and decisive leadership, and you will be able to point to the change you have led and the outcomes it achieved. A hands-on leader who listens and then acts, you will understand how government works, bring urgency to delivering its priorities, and give the Minister confidence that the Department is getting on with the job. You will be solutions focused, comfortable giving fearless and frank advice to Government and your CEO peers, and able to balance economic development, community benefit, environmental responsibility and regulatory integrity. Above all, you will bring the resilience, self-awareness and commitment to lead the Department with stability over the term ahead.
This is an opportunity to shape how the Territory develops its resources and energy future, and a significant next step in your executive career.
