AO6 Senior Communications Advisor - Infrastructure & Transport

About the Role
Join our State Government client in a senior communications and engagement role supporting a major infrastructure program. You will be at the centre of community engagement, stakeholder relationships, media and emerging issues. You will also lead a small communications and engagement team and provide strategic advice to senior project and regional leaders.

Responsibilities 
  • Implement active community engagement, community relations and correspondence program by supporting the delivery of
  • consistent and externally facing engagement and stakeholder management to a broad range of community stakeholders across
  • the region.
  • Lead and coach a small team of customer and stakeholder staff to produce clear, concise and consistent high-quality collateral
  • and information.
  • Liaise with project managers and communication and correspondence officers to identify communication issues in the region
  • and develop and implement proactive measures for issues management and external engagement activities.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the major works program and project activities and proactively identify trends and risks in
  • engagement and communication issues that may affect the region.
  • Community engagement and stakeholder relationship management across a number of areas of the department and external
  • stakeholders including the general community, industry, business communities and local, state and federal government
  • agencies.
  • Develop and grow positive relationships with key external stakeholders and those related project teams to facilitate active
  • cooperation, coordination and enhanced engagement and communication channels.
  • Provide advice to the region's officers and management on issues and risk management / resolution, external communication
  • strategies and on improving relationships with key stakeholders throughout the community.
Desirable Requirements
  • A degree in communications, public relations or marketing or equivalent years work experience would be highly desirable.
  • Previous experience in dealing with difficult stakeholders and critical conversations.
  • Experience in major infrastructure project environments and social media competency, will also be highly regarded.
  • IAP2 or equivalent training in community engagement and public participation.
  • Knowledge of the infrastructure planning lifecycle.
  • Demonstrated experience successfully leading a team and driving positive team performance
