About the company
Our client is a small to medium sized professional services business based in the inner suburbs of Melbourne.
 
About the role
The role is a 3-4 month contract role with an opportunity to go permanent. The Payroll Manager will report into the Finance Manager and be responsible for end-to-end ownership of the payroll function.
  • You’ll manage two separate payrolls across approximately 300 employees
  • You’ll take ownership of the full payroll cycle, ensuring accurate and timely processing while managing superannuation, PAYG, payroll tax, annual leave, long service leave and payroll reconciliations
  • You’ll also prepare payroll journals, accruals and reporting for the broader finance team
  • As the subject matter expert for payroll, you’ll be responsible for ensuring compliance with the Fair Work Act, relevant awards and other payroll legislation. You’ll interpret awards and employment conditions, investigate and resolve payroll queries, and provide clear advice to internal stakeholders on payroll-related matters
  • The role will also oversee the Astute payroll system, including maintaining accurate employee data, identifying system or process issues and ensuring payroll information reconciles accurately to Power BI and the wider finance reporting
  • There is an opportunity to review and improve processes
 
About you
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in managing payroll
  • Experience with the system Astute and strong Excel skills is desirable
  • Understanding of awards
  • Immediately available with an ideal start date of 19th October
